Hi fellow bike packers,

I’m on a year long journey trough South America. I started my trip a month ago in Colombia but already having some issue with my Surly bridge club.

– the drive side of the crank is coming loose (fsa comet which come with the bike). I stopped at local motor bikes shops several times now to tighten it again because I’m not carrying that big of an allen wrench (hex key). It keeps coming loose every two days.. any advice? At the moment there are shops shops but soon I’ll be in regions where less people live.
– there is also some play on my cassette (Shimano 11x 11-51). It’s mounted on new dt Swiss 350 hybrid hubs so I’m quite sure there is no issue there. Here again I have the feeling that the cassette is coming loose after cranking it down. At the moment I’m not really off road but soon wil be.

Pic for attention (my set-up at the moment).

Once a crank arm comes loose and you’ve ridden it you have to replace it as it’s been damaged enough that it won’t match perfectly and will keep coming loose.

Again the cassette needs to be torqued to spec which is around 52nm if I’m not mistaken.
