There are at least a dozen companies making oval chainrings now: Absolute Black, WolfTooth, Burgtec, Works, SRAM, Unite, Blackspire, Stone, OneUp, Rotor, Superstar, etc.

The difference between Absolute Black and WolfTooth is widely discussed (AB is more oval, which they claim is based on 2 years of research), but the degree of ovality isn’t mentioned on a lot of other websites. Has someone ever made a table comparing them?

I’m particularly interested in Superstar as it’s half the price of the competition, and one of the few companies to make 28t. But they don’t give much info about it on their site.

  1. Some are better, some are more expensive (but not necessarily better), some come in pretty colours. I had a 32t Superstar one for years and it was as good as anything else. Personally I buy steel chain rings nowadays as they wear better and weigh marginally more.

There’s nothing wrong with Superstar stuff nowadays.
