Took the risk and bought a brompton clone for around $580 USD. I really love the brompton form factor and look, but I will always be a cheapskate. Works great now after some adjustments.

Well I for one salute you, a lot of elitists up in here. End of the day you are enjoying biking outdoors. Isn’t that what matters most?
Some of the clones are actually outdoing Brompton with lighter builds and 11-28/11-32 7 speed gearing, one even with mechanical disk brakes (Ruhm dx7).
There are also varying build qualities amongst the different brands. They’re not all cheap copies, some will last as long as a Brompton.
