Looking to get some protective shorts for my second season and improve my confidence, thought I’ll need my hips in the future so might as well start there, any other recommendations that aren’t too expensive or just any tips and thoughts are appreciated.

honestly d30 shorts at that price is pretty good. not sure you are going to do better if they end up fitting right.
imho, gloves on every ride + kneepads for a bit gnarlier + Fullface and elbow pads w/shoulders for real downhill. I’d maybe maybe do hips after all that.
Usually falling on your hips doesn’t actually injure you. it just hurts. Pelvises are really tough.
