Hi all – I’m working on replacing my brake lines on my 90s Trek Multitrack 750, and curious what kind of termination point this is, and if I need to use the same type with my brakes.
I bought a standard Shimano Universal Brake cable kit, and the termination point on that seems to fit, though it’s not as flush as the original (see photos).
Is this a specific type of termination point and a type of brake line I should have purchased? Does it matter?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Will most likely work just fine
I’d get something that has a barrel end like the original: [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elvedes-cable-topper-black-silver/dp/B0764DGP4X](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elvedes-cable-topper-black-silver/dp/B0764DGP4X)
A spare old MTB brake cable cut short works as well.
What you’re trying to replace is called a straddle cable. I doubt your universal cable kit came with one.
That said, it’s basically the same end as mountain bike brake cables, which should be what’s at the other end of the brake cable from your kit.
