This can be a good setup to everybody not willing to spend a lot on new gear and/or who is just starting out. Just like starting with ‘the bike you already have’ you might also have the bag already.

I’ve been touring with both panniers and strapped on backpacks and i actually prefer the latter and dont see myself changing it anymore.

Just tighten the backpackstraps around your seatpost (red) and put one strap tightly around the bag and the rack (orange) and your good to go. Works with a standard pack cover as well.

Other advantages
– flexibel (just park your bike and go on a overnight hike or something) can also be handy around town
– aero
– ample space for your heels (especially good on a non-touringbike)

A disadvantage could be getting stuff in and out. I use all the side pockets and a handlebar-bag for that stuff. Most of the gear comes out only once a day anyway.
Weight distribution has never been an issue for me.

  1. I like it! I’ve actually been considering trying this out and now need to give it a shot!

Is that a frame less bag? Mine is and I’m not sure if that will matter much.
