So I got my Jamis Hudson through my LBS about half a year ago and have had no issues. I have never had to patch a tire before as I usually just rode Walmart bikes where I’d just replace tubes without a care before. I noticed the front tire was flat this morning and pulled the tube out to find a tiny hole about a couple cms long on the rim-side of the tube, when I figured I may have run over some glass earlier.
I lined up the puncture to the rim and noticed the tape seemed way off to me? Wasn’t covering a solid part of the spoke holes, this is my first time taking a tire off of this bike so I never noticed before. Do I need to get it retaped?

That is a rim strip. Like a big rubber band. There’s a hole somewhere in it. May have to pull off the tires, find it and line it up.
It shifted I wouldn’t say it’s improperly installed, but it does need to be fixed.
That will puncture tubes. Never use too narrow a strip. The slightest edge of an exposed spoke hole will puncture.
TIL that isn’t rim tape.
This isn’t tape, it’s just a rim strip. The rim strip is too narrow. Replace it with a wider strip, or tape. It needs to completely cover all the spoke holes, and needs to be wide enough that it can’t shift to the side (like this one did).

Here are a few options to solve with
– take it back to them and call beforehand about the issue
– buy new correct strip yourself
– leave existing strip and use some electrical tape to cover the empty space
That tape is much too narrow for that rim.
The shop doesn’t install that strip, it comes pre-installed from Jamis. The strip does look a little narrow for the rim though. You should get adhesive rim tape, like Velox in the proper width. Your LBS might offer that on the house but if not at worst it’s a few bucks.
Thank you everybody for all the responses! I had no idea rim tape vs strips were a thing; I did patch the tire and it’s holding but I’m going to go back in and see if I can move the strip back into alignment.
While it’s not seen from the picture the rim strip seems to have ‘ridden’ significantly up on the other side of the rim and moved out of place, so it may not be too narrow.
