By request, here are some details for the DIY constuction of a courtesy passing distance flag thats been discussed in my earlier post on this sub. I started with a Mirracycle brand mirror, then added a (speed) boat weather awning pivot clamp around the mirror post, with a thin rubber strip in between for friction when its tightened. Then added a (speed) boat awning rod end piece and a hand screw to tighten it. The pole, either aluminium tube or bamboo is fixed into the end piece, wrapped with orange flagging tape, and a small wooden ball glued to the tip. Some others have suggested using a more aggressive tip, not for me however! The wooden ball is painted then coated with crayon. The flag components were purchased in Sydney, Australia at Whitworths Marine Outfitters (boat awning bits, hand screw), Bunnings Hardware (pole, flagging tape), and Kmart (ball, paint, crayon) The bamboo was from my backyard! Its important to tighten the clamping screw just enough to hold the flag in place whilst still being able to pivot easily when its hit. A bit of trial and error with the right thickness rubber strip around the mirror post was necessary to achieve this.

You must be a blast at parties.
I’d be wary of having that mounted on the bars just because if it does get clipped by a car it might cause the rider to lose the front wheel, but as a commuter that gets buzzed pretty frequently I commend you!
Wtf is this? Looks dangerous and you are also extending the width of your bike so whoever needs to have a certain distance needs to extend that distance in addition to whatever you have extending the width of your bike if it’s even legal to do in the first place.
Weirdo
I definitely wouldn’t attach it to your handlebars. If it gets clipped (or you clip something), at best you will have a big wobble, at worst your front wheel gets turned right round and you crash. Attaching it to the seat post makes some sense and would allow you to fold it back out the way when you don’t want it extended.
Also, make sure you have a helmet camera and ideally a rear camera cause if someone clips this and damages their car your can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to end up in a dispute with their insurance company.
Feels dangerous but do you boo
