When I heard about University, “Campus Police” in the USA, I always thought that they were ‘real’ police. Why do the local real police (& 911) tell callers to hang-up & contact the campus police if the crime has happened on the school site? (I’ve heard that in several cases. Maybe the law differs from state to state?)

Simon, this is the best episode I have heard so far. I am fascinated (in a slightly gruesome way) and have listened to many. I must admit I sometimes dodge the ones that involve children, but find you generally handle the cases by according the victims the dignity and compassion to which they are entitled.

You know what's funny is that Bob Sanger (the defense attorney for Paul Flores) actually defended Michael Jackson! Successfully! He wasn't the lead attorney, that was Messereu, but he was local counsel since the charges were in Santa Barbara. He actually has a good reputation, but I think that's because he practiced in an era when you could slut shame murder victims and not be cancelled.
What little I know about her personality, she seemed like a cool chick. What a damn shame her life ended so soon.

I used to work parttime for the mail and I can assure you, the Meerkats are everywhere. I had one old lady who was 'watering her plants' an awful lot without moving the watering can once whenever I was delivering mail in her street. I swear they have a network or something, chatting about everything that happens everywhere.

I only live sbout 90 mins from SLO in 1999 i had friends who went to college there. It was the Party school for that area of California. Its a lot of fun. But for all those years that Kristin had disappeared I never forgot about her. Id always check for updates on her case. She seemed like several of the girls in my friend group and how she could have been one of my friends. But Paul and so clearly the perpetrator. It was an open secret. Im just glad the police finally did their job. Kristin was going through some issues but most of us do at that age. RIP Kristin Smart you will never be forgotten and Paul Flores will never harm another woman.
