Hey, I’m hoping someone could give me a suggestion for my next bike. I am wanting a hard tail to do some more adventurous international long distance bikepacking and potentially get into some ultras. The problem is that I am 205 cm about 6 foot 8.

Currently I own:
Trek Fuel EX5, 2XL, 2021. Reach 520mm, Stack 641mm. I am probably going to sell this. https://www.evocycles.co.nz/Product/357591/2021-trek-fuel-ex-5-deore-29-mtb-aquaticblack
and a Canyon Grizl 7 CF, 2XL, 2022. Reach 515mm, Stack 733. I love it. Unlikely to ever sell. https://www.canyon.com/en-us/grizl-cf-sl-7/3244.html

Between the two of these I have ridden most of the bikepacking routes in New Zealand and across Europe. Both bikes I ride with the seat post maxed out to its limit and feel maybe slightly too small. But can’t really complain given the limitations.

The other problem is that I live in New Zealand and there isn’t a lot of options here. Regardless I am keen to hear any options as I will likely be overseas this year. On the upside I work as a bike guide and am able to purchase Shimano parts at wholesale, so purchasing a frame only is a reasonable solution. Trek, Specialized, Scott and so on make the occasional aluminium hardtail in a 2XL but are generally really low spec, I could buy one and just replace more of the parts?

My list or priorities in approximate descending order. Something that fits me, reasonable price, material (titanium> steel> aluminium, carbon?), good transmission, good front shock with lock out, drop bars? (not really sure how feasible but i find them really comfortable and like going fast), dropper post, plenty of mountain points.

Any thoughts, opinions or suggests are appreciated.

  1. Odd_Neighborhood2176 on

Custom titanium, Walty or similar Chinese manufacturer. I think there’s another one that I would actually go with ahead of Waltly based on reviews I’ve seen here.

Idk about working up the geometry, you could look at the measurements of your XXL grizl and start from there.

  2. I’m 6’4″ just bought a Scott Scale XxL. Decent fit for me. Preciously on a Canyon Spectral XL which was smaller reach. The scale works for me, almost thought it was too big to begin with but s3ttl3d into it now.

    Any questions just ask
