The second day of my bicycle tour around Iceland, filmed on July 20th 2023.

Notes from the video:

As I mentioned yesterday, I forgot to speak as I was filming, so this voiceover is added later on!

The road I’m cycling on is a relatively minor road leading to Thingvellir park, so not too much traffic. This was a pretty quiet route to get to the park.

As you can see, there’s not much in the way of trees or shelter from side winds – fortunately I didn’t have any today, but something to keep in mind if you are planning a cycling trip.

There’s not much on the way of road shoulder either. Unlike on the main ring road, people had plenty of opportunity to give me room as they passed by though.

I found this section of cycling to be relatively easy, although there was a very wild and barren feel to it. By the way, you can see the route I followed on Kamoot – I’ll put a link below, and I also screenshot the route I cycled and put it at the end of this video

So, as I mentioned, today’s cycling was a short one. I’d purposefully planned it like this so I had two short days at the beginning of the tour. This way if nothing went wrong, I would be gently easing into the tour. Alternatively, if flying with the bike had damaged it in some way, I would have some buffer time to get it fixed.

Today’s goal was Thingvellir National Park, which I believe, don’t quote me, is a Unesco site. It was once the home of the Viking Althing parliament, and is also a place where tectonic plates meet.

My idea was to find somewhere to camp – there’s official camping in the park – and the explore a little on the hiking trails and walk out to a waterfall.

The camping was basic – and there were a tremendous amount of flies. I’m glad I packed a fly headnet, and suggest anyone who wants to tour in Iceland to do the same. You’ll thank me later.

All in all another quite relaxing day – the serious cycling would start on day 3, so stay tuned for the next video!

Good morning everyone it’s day two of my bike tour around Iceland and we have the wobbly camera shot on the map to show you where I’m going today I spent the night in a campground near mosell called M moscoa Camping and today I’m going to be cycling pretty much up this road and

Going towards thing National Park it’s only a short day today about 40 km probably less and the idea being I’m going to go there set up the tent and then go and see some sites in the national park so I will show you some clips from the road and give you some

Commentary and I’ll see you in a bit cheers day two of the bike ride around Iceland and I left my campsite and now I’m going to thing V National Park there’s absolutely zero chance I pronounce that right by the way as I mentioned yesterday I forgot to

Speak as I was filming for the first couple of days so this voice over is added a little bit later on the road I’m cycling on is relatively flat and it’s a minor Road leading to thing Bella Park so there’s not too much traffic and the whole day’s ride it was pretty quiet

Which was good I filmed this on the 20th of July 2023 and I think the vast majority of tourists get there sort of for the month of August really as you can see there’s not much in the way of trees or shelter from side winds fortunately I didn’t have any when

I cycled but it is something to keep in mind if you’re planning a cycling trip around Iceland you can also see there’s not much in the way of Road shoulder either unlike on the main Ring Road though people have plenty of opportunity to give me room as they pass by

This section of cycling was relatively easy although it did have a wild and Barren feel to it by the way you can see the route I followed on Kut and I’ll put a link below there’s also a screenshot of the route right at the end of this

Video as mentioned today’s cycling was a short one I purposefully planned it like this so I had two short days at the beginning of the tour this way if nothing went wrong I’d just be gently easing into the tour but if something had gone wrong with flying with the bike

Into Iceland I could have had some time to get it fixed and it wouldn’t have impacted my schedule or RS I honestly thought I was stupid bringing a solar panel to Iceland but as you can see it’s quite a good day and it’s charging my phones and devices

Quite nicely this is a campground at thinger Bella pretty basic I’m just here for one night and I’m going to do a hike into the park which is over that way somewhere so I took the hike out to the waterfalls which were very nice and it

Was good to stretch my legs as opposed to just riding the bike uh back at the campsite it was a bit basic and there were a lot of flies so I suggest that you bring a fly headnet with you if you want to cycle around Iceland and that’s

It for today’s ride uh if you can like And subscribe to the channel That would be great and I’ll catch you in the next video cheers for now
