Possibly a counterfeit or low quality chain? It’s also very dry.

Cheap counterfeit?

Is the simple green embrittlement thing still a thing?

I had this type of breakage happen with a new bike, and it was because my derailleur hangar was just ever slightly so loose. It broke my chain just like that one.

Failure to use a Regina de Ora 50 “Extra” chain with a matching Regina Oro Extra 6 speed freewheel. Of course, the must be mated Campagnolo Super Record derailleurs and shift levers–though Simplex LJ retrofriction work, too.
Guess: Chain is getting to tight and seeing crazy spikes in tension. Either single speed (or igh) adjusted too tight or multi speed in Big Big cross chain. Can you produce a picture in Big Big to evaluate?

Metal fatigue; simply replace link with quick link until you get a new chain.

Seeing a lot of this lately…
Cheap knock-off chain would be my guess.
What bike is it on?
