I’d be thinking just the cost to build this myself would be well over $1000 when you include the disk conversion and presumably a respray/powdercoating. So to me it’s a fair price.

Can’t ride a cool backstory but whatever I’d still mention it. Bike is for sure overpriced — like almost any of labour of love, don’t expect it to be an investment in anything more than your enjoyment.

I live nearbyish to this guy, the frames too small for me or I was gonna offer him like 600 bucks for it and see what he said. Pretty cool build but definitely overpriced

I sold a super basic rockhopper that I rode the fuck out of 2 weeks ago for $450. I only made minor mods, new handlebars, tired and that’s it. Listed it at that hoping no one would buy it and I could keep it. Sold the next day. This bike is a bargain comparatively.

I just got a quote for a disc conversion, $275 to weld the tab on the rear. Then you’ve gotta buy the wheel and parts. They also put a disc fork on the front and a new wheel there too. Probably not wildly overpriced….

He’s definitely got a lot of money tied up in the bike. The issue is that anyone who wants it is the same person who would likely want it set up very differently. 650b conversions are really limited and most frames won’t accommodate over a 47mm tire once you do it. Also, it’s sort of a Rivendell set up bar-wise but then it’s a 1x and it has disc brakes. I’m assuming most buyers who’d pay up for the disc conversion want something that will fit wider tires. Anyway, I’ve sold a couple of bikes lately and I’ve gotten steamrolled on price. I sold a nice rockhopper not long ago for $150.
