Hello,
This July, I’m embarking on an exciting journey along Iceland’s Ring Road and am seeking advice on the ideal bicycle for the trip. My options are the Poseidon Redwood, equipped with drop-bars, or the State All-Road also equipped with drop-bars. The journey will predominantly be on paved roads, with approximately 2% on gravel, though I anticipate some off-road adventures. From the positive feedback I’ve received about both models, I’m slightly inclined towards the Redwood, especially because of its wider tires. Additionally, I plan to equip the bike with both rear and front panniers, alongside a frame bag. Any insights or recommendations on which bike would best suit this adventure would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I had a state allroad, and was not impressed. Their house branded components leave a lot to be desired. Ended up building a surly bridge club instead. I can’t speak to the Redwood. I would caution that budget bikes are budget for a reason. Never had one that did not have some issues. In a place like Iceland where the weather is going to wear you down, I would personally try to limit the additional frustrations that come from crappy parts.
I’ve had a Poseidon redwood for a few years now. I replaced the brake cables due to stretching, and I put a brooks saddle on it. I’ve not upgraded anything additionally and it’s been a beast. I’ve put a few thousand miles on it and the components have held up well. Still love riding it and it really handles everything I can throw at it.
