**Key bit missed in the OP:** I will be pedaling this bike up to the top of these trails

**Budget:** 2-3K, though I’d be happy to spend less. This won’t be my primary bike, though I’ve been riding trails I’d use it on 1-2 times a week.

**Trails:** Bootleg Canyon DH trails (the video is one of them). I pedal up a mild tech trail then the service road, then another tech trail to get to the top. We have a small lift served bike park near by which I’d likely take this bike too, but my current bike handles it alright.

**Riding Style/Experience:** Slower than the racing in the video. I ride these trails much more like tech trails, though I do want to be able to open up a bit more (hence the bigger bike) and some time that’s the only option as things are steep and loose. I’m a fairly good rider, but not amazing. I’m particularly bad at jumps, but there aren’t many where I’m at (though a good number of drops.

**Sizing:** I’m ~6’3″ (190cm), ~200lbs gear up (90kg). I usually am on an XL for most brands and too small to ride an XXL Spire.

**What I don’t like about my current bike**: I currently ride an Ibis Ripmo, which I love and will be keeping. With the Fox 38 on the front, it does pretty well, but for chunky DH trails, I’d like a second bike that’s even slacker and squishier.

    **Bikes considered:**

Transition Spire (alas, missed the sale after fantasizing about it for a while)

    YT Capra

    Canyon Torque

    Polygon Collossus

Op it sounds like you suck. A bigger bone isn’t going to keep you from dying.

  3. You might be able to find a used 2023 Norco Shore in your price range. Don’t know how easy it’d be to pedal, but it’d be easier than grinding on a DH. Ride safe out there buddy.

  4. A ripmo with a 38 is plenty of bike for bootleg, especially if you’re not shuttling to the top. Sure, something like a Capra might be a bit more capable, but the difference will be marginal and not worth spending 3k, imo. If you really want something substantially more capable, I’d just buy a used dh bike and pay for the shuttle.

You think you need something bigger than a ripmo with a 38 in front for that? I’m not sure your better off getting anything ‘bigger’ for your budget. Trail looks pretty gnarly but not sure you need a bigger bike, or a shittier bike for 2-3k to ride it, seems like a badass trail though!

Not sure you’re gonna notice a massive difference here OP. You’re already riding a very capable bike.

  7. If you already have an enduro/trail bike why not just buy a DH bike. I ride there and have done it on my enduro/trail bike and quickly bought a DH.
