
I hope this isn’t as bad as it looks but the 2024 touring season thru Big Sur may have just crumbled with this section of roadway:

There’s no easy fix here in that narrow ledge of land that remains. Very unclear how stable that one remaining lane is for even alternating traffic to use. Any sort of construction in this spot would demand full closure.
It is entirely possible to ride up or down the coast inland along Interstate 101 for that section (have done it south to north three times) but it’s much less memorable and exhilerating… and comfortable.
Ride on brothers & sisters! This sad reality of our most glorious coast will never change. We must embrace the chaos once again.

Small by-pass on coast rd. and you’re back on track.
The new slip is at Rocky Creek, a spot that is about 20 miles north of the other closures.
Police are requiring proof of residency to get in. The state parks south of it have all closed.
