Been as last week it’s kind of weird it feel like March has actually been worse weather than January and February I don’t think it’s been the same the you there or not Andy in South yor it’s absolutely hammering it down as we speak just just for people who will view this

And think what the hell are they talking about we’re recording this uh Thursday evening so it’s before the Good Friday matches so we’ll have absolutely no idea what Barnsley versus Cambridge holds for us and no idea what Wigan against Burton album holds for us so I mean I have an

Idea what that might happen in that but it’s not exactly a good thing any well maybe we’ll do you a favor so tell us what you do Ed uh I go around to a lot of football games a lot of all over the place so I’m a burton th it’s my it’s my

First love um this season it’s a bit more of a hate because it’s not been a particularly th campaign to enjoy but there’s been nice moments in the past I remember you know I was talking with a Wigan guy just recently before doing this the 15 16 Season I think we all

Hold quite Thun memories of yourselves going up through the playoffs ourselves and Wing get up automatically that was a th last that’s probably the last really Thun season I had to be honest I try remember that far back but down in League one for a seventh year now uh we

We try and hold our own we know that we we take okay numbers I always enjoy coming over to oakwell even though Devan Cole always gets a brace it’s still a nice game to go to you know I like I like oakwell as the way as the stadium

I’m very keen on my efl football as a whole so alongside going to Burton Gams I keep it close tabs on League one or League two on the championship see everything that’s going on there always good th and of course we’re into that uh running now at the end of the season

Where everything’s starting to matter and there’s relegations to soon be decided and promotions and playoffs and I could always look all of the playoff campaigns because it’s the best time of the year although playoffs can be I’m sure you find yourselves and it could be a fun at

Times and other times quite a painful experience it was all right until last year it was all right until till 30 seconds from the end then it weren’t so good it it weren’t good after that tell us let’s talk about Cambridge then let’s get all over Cambridge tell tell me

Because you know some fans will know some fans won’t know tell us about your style of playing your formation first we’re talking Cambridge yeah yeah yeah uh not Cambridge but you see and this is where it gets confusing because was Happ to talk cambrid but I wasn’t quite sure if you wanted that

That he kind of wants to trust sit deep very conservative Wing backs very direct team not going to have a lot of possession at all I’d imagine there we’ll see his b come and dominate the ball a little bit more at the per compared to what they did oakwell but it

Will be a case of probably mostly playing on the counter in the transition the big set piece threat has been there for a number of years it’s something they will look to capitalize on again so the in swing deliveries of Joe pal Mark Helm to have been fielded of some

Corners and fre kicks that’ll be the primary target um I’m wondering if John braa might want to go in goal again I think I might be able to bring that up at the last season as you guys probably remember at the time so oh we bring that

To later no I do remember that game quite well that was a really important win at the time really pleasing one um very anxious at the end with that Nikki C and goal because we could just never hold two-goal leads it always has to end up being a one-goal lead in the 10

Finish but thank for the hanging to there I’m praying to something like that again this time because uh the Thor of the minute and the general negative tactics is not leaving a particular great theing around the place at the moment you’ve recently appointed a manager aren’t you that’s got that’s got

Connections with with our club yeah Martin yeah Martin Patterson um assistant to doth in that one season what season that was that went pretty well for him um right yeah it’s it’s been a real mixed bag with him it’s it took a while to come in um do know M was

Let go in sort of early mid December there was then a month with an interim manager and th team coach Gary Mills who did an okay had an okay points return and then very much out of the blue with no one really expecting it Martin Parson gets announced um Ben Robinson the

Chairman believing this is kind of the next one of the gems that he’s uncovered in the past because in his time at Burton which goes back multiple decades he’s uncovered Gary Row warock one of his first jobs rajel CL started out here all those years ago so he does have a

Track record with it and he wants to believe that Martin Patterson is the next guy this is a guy who’s from Stater he’s from Stoke originally I believe um never played Burt as a player but always spoke about how he used to head up there to reserve games around the time n CL

Was manager and it was very clear I’ve had eight or so years in the coaching scene out in the US obviously working with barnesley a little bit with Swansea with Duff up there as well I now want to take that step and take on an opportunity for the first time and his

First month was really positive I think it was 10 points from six games 10 points from possible 18 it was a really solid return we’re all feeling quite good and it’s over a month ago now that he picked up his last win away at Leon

Nor which is a really good is Smash and grab result a really good one all the same and it’s a single point in the month since and with the way the table is with the bottom Thor two the teams I think in particular there starting to pick up with Thor it’s it’s leaving

Things really anxious right now and I I want the season done I kind of wish we didn’t have to play this last month we could just call it now and just leave the table as it is because it I’m really really nervously looking at my shoulder

At the minut this Easter weekend um away to Wigan before hosting yourselves and with not looking particularly good either home or away at them minut it it it’s really really tense you know you you’ve just given us a list of really good managers why you down the bottom if

You’ve had that many good managers over the years these are going back quite a long time these ones um I think the problem is you go back to covid as football stopped Nigel cloth left he’d been at the hel for I think his second spell been about five years he had him

Up in the championship we’ gone down and been very competitive in League one he moved on I think part of the reason was to protect the club financially expecting huge losses they took him off the wage Bill tried to move away and Ben Robinson is an attempt to recreate Nigel

Cloth which is a Monumental task by the way because Nigel cloth is undoubtedly one hell of a manager he just hasn’t managed it a lot of these managers would come in Jimmy th as bank for a second spell din Mar succeeding him now Martin Patterson they are certainly the first

Two are able to show out the short term where they inherited Burton in a very sticky relegation battle situation and got them out of it but the thot ball is so quickly predictable that it just sends you back there again in a very short space of time and it’s just a

Cycle that’s continued really since covid and we got to get out of it at some point if not this year the next year because it’s it’s going to ultimately end with them going down to League two at some point they’re just going to run out of teams to officially

Be worse than them and it will become their turn so real shame um you know clth was we probably didn’t appreciate it enough at the time but now that he’s gone we do realize he was really topnotch always was the case is it when the manager leaves you realize it’s only

Then you understand what you’ve lost well from my point of view you know I liked Martin Patterson and and I hope he does really really well for you starting Tuesday obviously oh oh maybe you know maybe against Wigan maybe tomorrow but then be nice yeah yeah then have a day off on

Monday um for us that that that a to me tell me tell me what the club I know you’re going to struggle but tell me what the strengths are that you’ve got as a team uh well well I brought them up before um you said about the set pieces

Yeah the set the set piece thre has been here really a long time and the past managers it’s it’s part of the height in the team I’d have to say braan is is the one to actually focus on who’s still who’s 36 now he’s the same age as Martin

Patterson which is quite some to say your manager and your Club captain at the same age he sits in the half defense we play very deep hardly because he’s in there because he just can’t do the running anymore he used to be right back back in the day but he just doesn’t he

Doesn’t have that dynamism anymore he’ll occasionally get the ball and carry it through but he’s just got this Knack of the ball dropping his way in the box and getting some shots off I think even in the games where we’ve been beaten recently he’s had a couple of moments

Where that Ball’s just Fallen his way in the box and been able to put a shot that’s either slightly over the bar slightly pass the post slightly off Target so there’s always the threat with that Sam Hughes who’s our running player of the season right sided Center back

He’s a he’s the best defender at the club he has just made a return some injury and that is really big because he’s a he’s the star in the center of this backline um Jasper Moon your old boy I think he’s probably not back till next month till April he’s been out for

A while as well I think if he was around it would be him bra and Jas and Sam Hughes that would be the is gone yeah libala um he had a short-term contract he signed as a free agent he he did well he had good impact

Um he turned down the short-term deal to go to Wickam for a better deal which I don’t begrudge him Thor because footballers are like that what leaves a bit of Tes to the people is that his final game supposed to be against Cambridge and he refused to play it and

That’s that just leaves people a little bit down on that if he wanted to go to Wi Wiccan fine but refusing to play your last game for whatever reason probably just to avoid injury to put himself to keep himself in contention that LE a sour taste to people so he’s moved on

But he’s still at the minute the act the top scorer in the team so no one’s been able to get the goals up to replace him what we’re left with is a very temporary front line of Lone Strikers people like Joe hugall from Manchester United um I’m

Gonna get his name right Adam mola ol ad bomy he’s quite a mouthful he’s on L from Crystal Palace don’t have to repeat it what again tell me again adola Ola adomi brilliant we call him mher just call him M very simp yeah and then a guy

Called antoan ha on loans from Sheffield United um bright talent I think they’ll go well they’ll probably have other loans in the league later on but they’re all very inexperienced um playing in a team that generally does not create a lot through Strikers they they’re really struggling throughout but the I think

Mhler and um hug hugle are the only two to register goals at the minute and then you adding Mason Bennett who’s the more experienced player in there but much like his career at Derby he just can’t quite trust his thickness of it’s been the case throughout the season I think

He is back now but you’re never quite sure if he’s going to manage four five games in a row so there’s frustrations there I think the biggest threat this team at the minute would have to be Mark Helm in central Midfield who um was was hopefully going to be our St of the

Season it’s not quite happened for him he’s had a little period out to manag to come back but he is the one that will get the ball down drift into the Left Channel take on his Man One V One play progressive and in a team like ours

That’s so direct you really do noce a player of his quality well I’ll tell you this what your your strength to set players into into the box we found out yesterday and today that Donovan Pines who’s our huge American Center half is out for the rest

Of the season we might be coming back and and that’s a that’s a big shame because we’re not sure what that means about who’s going we play back three and then we Wing backs um we’re not sure because we played two different things we played Josh ear playing back there

With um Jamie mcart and um M deeni yeah but we’ve also played played again recently played um uh Jordan Williams there so we don’t know which three are going to be playing at the back but either way we’re not at our strongest without Donovan being there as far as

Height’s concerned we bought him in January because we knew that it was a you know the height in the defense was a bit of a bit of an issue for us defending set players and what have you so that’ll C that certainly could play into your strengths but what about

Weaknesses what weaknesses have you got you must have so just about the relegation you can’t be as good as you say yeah I would say whil I like the right side of the team I think the left side of the team is is probably the part

That people go to the left wing back situation left back has been a problem with bur actually for a number of years they’ve just never been able to find a solid replacement since Dam mcra and you’re going back to the promotion season probably 15 16 really since then

Yeah he a he had a number of years at the club and he was he was the standout left back of the team and they they’ve never really proberly been able to replace him I remember Nigel cloth in the championship was putting Lloyd Dyer there because he was that desperate to

Make work and I remember it did work actually at the oakwell game I remember in 2018 when bur go two lead half time and then managed to just hang on the second half which was the biggest AA bombardment from Barnes I’ve ever seen in my life I remember watching that game

Very relieved for the thought time whistle there um left wing backs this season are basically temporary um Steve sedon who’s on loan from Oxford very hit and miss um his discipline record is really woring I think he’s got three red cards this season it’s not great at all

So people are quite disappoint with him um taji coming from Rotherham again right intent attacking intent but I don’t think he’s particularly as dynamic as I want my wing backs to be especially in a team like this and you can often find it leaves the center back exposed Ryan Sweeney the Le

Center back lefted player who has generally been quite good he’s probably in contenti the player of the Season which doesn’t say a lot about the campaign we’ve had but it’s Testament to him that he’s done quite well coming down from dunde to play on the left side

Defense here um he can be left quite exposed by the weakness down that left hand side with the left swing back and I I would generally say part of the problem is because this team is so little creativity they can be sat very deep and it can often become a case of

Where they just stay camped in their own box because there’s no Outlet it’s such a Negative formation in a 532 or a 541 where you’ve got one lone player isolated up top and the ball could just keep coming back again and they’re not able to say defensively solid throughout

Th 90 minutes and hold on to the clean sheet and the real D damning result really was last weekend against the portv side that had W in 14 G games and portv beat the one nil and that’s that’s really bad because there were portv fans

Telling me all the bu to that game you each his three points of the season and they’re going to pick up the three points and that’s just dragged us into real trouble now because portv with in Touching distance it’s it’s why it’s so uncomfortable at the moment the fun

There were a funny side port Veil against us as you remember we played him in the Opening match at ell I know we won 70 and you think well we abolutely hammered him everything went in but I’ll tell you this for the first 20 minutes 25 minutes they absolutely pasted us

Were infinitely better than we were we scored a bit against another play and the folded so you know I I’ve no idea what’s going on them because they they weren’t a poor side at all in that first match they were a very good side that

Just caught us on the um on a funny time really where every time every it felt like every shot went in I remember actually I remember that first day and they had the seven nil and then I think to the next month you didn’t win a game

And Port Bell didn’t lose a game to the next month yeah that’s right played Port Bale hosted Burton in kind of mid in mid September with a chance to go top and Burton got the first win the season against them so this is this is League one th just throws up weird results

After the weird results desate the way you keep going well you you you’ll know that red all over has got a a little mascot called the Tumbl down called Tumbl down Ted he’s a little teddy bear that F that F he always goes down either in the penalty area or just outside the

Box you know if things are getting tight it goes down like a Gooden to try and get a penalty we’ve got a few Tumbl down TS you know we we we’ve got a few Dante has been known to go down easily um Herby Kane’s been known to not

Necessarily in the box or just outside but it’s been known to go down to to be able to you know call for a foul easily um and if he plays on the right how we got Barry cutter who nobody really knows what Barry cutter is going to do with

The ball including probably Barry cutter but is Mercurial sometimes he’s not too good sometimes he’s standing but he’s good at going down with the Burton side is like it to go down do you think it would have been Bez laala but he not here anymore we saw we saw him flipping weak

Yeah yeah I think I think bra as an ex blade probably it’s not quite the same because it’s not it’s not the owls you know it’s slightly different he really gets riled up to the shutle Wednesday GES when they were there last season but maybe braod might if he was up there

Would he maybe do I don’t think I can’t really think of anyone on the team that would probably without without in contact yeah if you don’t pick him in goal that is yeah well see that was that was quite funny I I did quite like that

Going back to that that there were a lot of shutle Wednesday fans who mocked you for that and then we went and beat them a couple of weeks later afterwards as well to put you guys back into the running so yeah that was a that was a

Fun month April I quite enjoyed that H they’re they’re a breed apart Sheffield Wednesday fans absolute breed apart Sheffield United not so bad in my personal opinion but Sheffield Wednesday breed aart I don’t know oh what your go the reason I ask what your goalkeepers like is because it’s felt like the last

Few matches particularly Orwell the goalkeepers have had the G the game of the flipping lives to keep us out what’s your goalkeeper like is it going to let us win that’s what I want to know yeah uh our goalkeeper is probably on the player of the

Season Del the good news max kroen um he’s been he was away last weekend with New Zealand he’s a New Zealand international playing for them so that was a bit of a blow out and have Jamal Blackman instead and Blackman did all right but he’s not kro Ken’s been

Fantastic this season he started as the number two goalkeeper Blackman started the first two games Blackman got injured um in mid August at Shrewsbury kroen winning goal and he’s not looked back and he he’s he’s kept them in a number of games and I think he’s got be one of

The top players in League one the saf the season which is not really the stat you want to be highing because it shows you’re facing a lot shots you’re not that great defensively in front but there time and time again where he has

Bell him out and uh I think if we have a player of the season this season I think he’d be a very strong candidate to have it I word with him and turn to have off day on Monday can please himself can please himself tomorrow on Good Friday

But you know and then for the rest of the season to get your you know keep keep you well out of the relegation but you know on Monday he needs to have a bit of a break it all depends on how Friday goes Andy if Friday doesn’t go

Badly I’m sorry Monday’s almost win it’s good we’ll do we’ll do a we’ll do our bit against please do against Cambridge if we can I’ve got to ask you about your Peach we the last match and oh my right I thought right it’s not quite as bad in

My opinion it’s not quite as bad as um as fleetwoods were when we played at Fleetwood it that is that was a cow field well what what’s happened to you pitch I don’t remember it being like like it was I think something’s happened with our ground staff I think we’ve

Changed the team that we’ve had maybe since sort of covid times the other problem is it’s not just the full Burton game it’s used occasionally for um women’s six I know leester woman used it a couple of times across the campaign so it gets more than a fair share of

Football throughout the season and natur pitches that aren’t the top class caring teams deteriorate around this time of year but that one last few seasons has got really really really bad and it’s uh it’s going to stay that way now for the rest of the campaign and it’s it’s kind

Of mirroring the home performances in the minute but I don’t think it really blame the pitch when everyone else is doing the same and handling just fine with it so yeah it’s going to be patch it’s going to be patch in places and it’s going to stay that way to the end

And uh what got yourselves Oxon I think reading and chelt are the home games less so really got to try and make like difficult to them if we can what are your thoughts about Monday’s match then how do you think it’s going to go not excited for the next couple of

Weeks I’m not excited for the final month like I said you before I want the season done I just want to end it now and just play with what we have because it’s really anxious looking over the shoulder um you’re a part of a tricky little period we’ve got this wig and

Away game on Good Friday which you just kind of hope you can get from although I was speaking to a Wigan guy and apparently they’ve got the fourth best home record in all the league one this season which was not the news I wanted to hear so that’s delightful to know

Just before we head up there on on Friday um your we got yourselves and we’re home to Oxford and then it’s an away game at stevenage so it’s the top six Battlers coming in yeah it gets tricky final three games of the season are at home to chelam at home to reading

And away at Fleetwood and I’m terrified of those ones though they they could be really really big at this stage so um yeah it’s I wish I could carry the same kind of I felt a bit of confidence this time last year when we played Jews have that

Feeling because you just had that bit it was kind of a possession to say to that point to us we’ve been in the relegation battle got ourselves out of it we’re just kind of waiting to the point it got mathematic confirmed it’s not going to

Be a possession to say to this year it’s going to be a slog and if it comes down to the fin couple of days it’s going to be really really tense I’m picturing this idea we have to go up to Fleetwood on the final day with one of us staying

Up basally whoever wins it and uh that’s tense I’m I’m scared of barnesley I’m very scared of Devante Cole who all who I’m convinced gets a brace every single time we go to oakwell there just something the about he just seems to really enjoy playing burn up there don’t

Think it’s happened as much at at home at the moment I can’t remember it’s not scored scor for a good while wed the pelli for a while actually have you because it would have been yeah beat them last year the season you went up in

189 te we got 3-1 win there where woodro scored to yourselves I remember so I think he would actually be I think it would have been the 4-2 in the championship actually wouldn’t it now I think about it that was a horrible occasion I think it was Joe Williams who

Scored a goal from outside the box on that there since that’s right Halloween nights I do remember that actually i’ don’t like to remember some of the old games some of them are more memorable than others let’s say but uh yeah so it’s been a while um I I I still think

Out the two over this Easter weekend we kind of looking at the Wigan one as maybe the bigger opportunity just knowing what bars they like the position they’re in Wigan season is kind of done you just kind of hope they put the thought off the gas a little bit they

Got the mid table which is fine because in the points deduction they started with so we’ll see um you know Friday’s another the fet Monday gets even bigger and every game after that gets even bigger so nervous at the minute and uh not really all to any games at the

Moment just want the season done yeah well my my worry for Monday is um is that we try to play Passing football and if the pitch is churned up and what have you as as it might be we could come AC Cropper um we I think it’s turned up

Mostly around the edges I think in the middle it’s all right so I think it has improved a little bit yeah so my worri is that we try to go um long and high apart from Cosgrove if Co Cosgrove on the pitch we haven’t we

Haven’t got a lot of height up there you know dant is not them stick Luke to stick um John Russell up top play him up there instead say Luka Connell then Luka Connell is definitely not to All Play No No Mak is a good player m m whoever

Whoever plays it from we’re hoping that the Break um that we’ve just had will make a difference to uh to devanti co because he’s he’s not been as far as goals are concerned you know his play’s been all right but his goals seem to have dried up and we think I think

They’ve literally just got tired you know we forget that the human beings underne a you know you know playing on a Saturday play a long season it always is it’s a long long time so no we’ll see won’t we I’m going to ask you about your

It would have been um November 2009 it was the season they first come up into League 2 Football League team for the first time was against heriford United who aren’t around as that exact Club anymore they’ve reth thought become her had gone down in into non League um I

Remember the score it was 3-2 the only goal I can remember was the very last goal which was around the 88th minute by guy called Aaron Webster who’s a real Club Legend around Burton he played um his entire career up the left hand side played every up the left over 100 goals
