Hi all,

I’m choosing an ebike for my fiancee for her 30th birthday. The choice is between Tern HSD and Canyon Precede ON:7 Comfort (https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/electric-bikes/electric-city-bike/precede-on/comfort/precede-on-comfort-7/3925.html?dwvar_3925_pv_rahmenfarbe=RD).

She’s leaning towards Canyon because it looks much nicer (especially the brick colour) and we don’t have kids or pets so Tern seems a little bit of an overkill as a cargo bike at this stage of our life in London. As a bit of context, she got interested in e-bikes due to popularity of Vanmoofs and Cowboys here in London but due to the proprietary parts of Cowboy and obvious story of Vanmoof sadly these great looking bikes are a no go for us. The main use will be to commute daily to work/get some groceries.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular bike? Any thoughts on it? It seems like it’s so new there’s very little written/reviewed on the web about it (there are some very generic reviews in German). I’m not too convinced by their ‘Comfort’ aspect of it – in the end of the day there’s no front fork suspension and only a seatpost suspension and quite large tires.

And probably the biggest potential issue of them all (especially given we can’t go and try the bike in an LBS) – she measures 159cm height and Canyon describes this bike as suitable for people that are at least 160cm. I’ve been in touch with Canyon about that and they said it’ll be fine, but I guess what else where they supposed to say?

What most likely will happen is we’ll order the bike (although it’s with Cycle Scheme so a bit of a pain), and she’ll try it and see. Worst case scenario it’s not suitable and we’ll return. While painful, it’s doable. Are there any reasons to abandon Canyon in favour of Tern or any other good looking e-bike?

Thanks!
