RESIDENTS who live by the UK’s “most DANGEROUS” crossing say they have taken matters into their own hands but claim the council still aren’t doing enough.
Work starts on Monday to replace the zebra crossing on Horton Grange Road, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, with pedestrian activated traffic lights after a catalogue of accidents were captured on CCTV.
And though the safety improvement is being welcomed by campaigners, another zebra crossing – where several accidents have also occurred – is to stay because Bradford Council is allegedly short of funds.
Both crossings are near to two primary schools and a mosque and are used regularly throughout the day.

They bought their licence for 10 rupee.
Physics always has the right of way. Look twice before you cross.
Who in this country in there right mind takes any notice of zebra crossings i haven't for at least 15 years when i cross as a pedestrian i cross when it clear and safe to do so. π¬π§
There are several problems in that area: the awful drivers from "certain demographics" not stopping, the awful pedestrians "from certain demographics" not waiting for traffic to stop, the attitude of "certain demographics" towards laws in and of themselves. It's an attitude problem in that area. And before people whine, yes i know that area and have driven past that crossing many times without issue
Corrupt laws …smells like …easy peasy for car drivers …they would get ready out with bribe and …pedestrians are discriminated every on the planet …guess why …lawyers, prosecuters and judges …the corruption interests, works hand in hand πβ π―ππΈπ°π€
Trouble is there all inbred, the drivers and pedestrians
I hope some drivers will also be prosecuted from this evidence. Complete lack of care and attention on their part. Shame on the local authority for its dereliction of responsibility.
Councils are distached from the reality they facilitate. I drive all day in a city and see ever hazard. Just statistics waiting to happen. Too busy paying themselves for all their work over the decades arint ya. Cheers
Fair play to you, although the first causality was taking a huge risk running across the zebra……….
Imports who don't understand what a Zebra crossing is or how it works
More foreigners coming here and whinging, back home they probably don't have proper roads let alone crossings.
It normally takes a few deaths before the council does anything unfortunately:)
Ohh… π―
Looks more like 50/50 here. People not paying attention as they cross and people not paying attention as they drive by.
The crossing isnβt dangerous. The careless drivers are dangerous.
Pelican crossing with enforcement red light cameras will address the issue.
There should be a number of solutions there. But I think a traffic light should be best. Normally, cars just go on driving but when pedestrian pushes the button at the post, the light goes red for cars to stop, pedestrian crosses. Of course, some small details like how many seconds allowable depends on the volume of pedestrians there, a red big or green big hands lights indication,…
Problems solve, everyone happy, right!!! πͺπππ½π
A single camera can come a long way when it comes to serving justice.
Great job!
Let hope that it helps, if it ever does get done.
Well done to the local residents and for the gentleman installing the camera π
It's not the crossing itself that is dangerous! It's people, and mainly the fault of the idiotic speeding mindless car drivers (mainly young men). Plus also many pedestrians don't look bothways before crossing, they just see a zebra and walk straight out. They must think a zebra crossing possesses some kind of magical powers that makes vehicles stop on a sixpence in a second.
The safest way to cross a pedestrian crossing is to wait for all the traffic to stop before crossing.
this is some third world driving
All zebra crossings should be replaced by pelican lights. Zebra crossings can be dangerous and drivers cannot always see pedestrians particularly if they decide last minute to cross. This can result in vehsicles not being able to stop in time. Pelican crossings would be far safer for everyone and ensure vehicles would know that there is someone on the crossing. I speak from my experience as a driver.
