Welcome to episode 1 of the UK RC Rock Crawling and Trail Guide.
In this episode, I show you how to find the epic Sundon Chalk Pit trail and crawl.

Sundon Chalk Pit has so much for the would-be RC rock crawler or trailblazer. There are infinite lines, multiple trails and rocks to test even the most capable rock crawlers.

We start by parking in Common Lane, Sundon then we follow the Ickenfield public footpath into the depths of this old chalk mine.

I’m here in the beautiful sh of Bedford uh with my friend Gladis we’re on the rocks at Sund and pits in this video I’m going to show you how to get here what the Walkins like what the trailing on the way in and out’s like and what it’s like when you actually get

To the Rocks if you’re within shouting distance of uh the M1 in Bedford sh it’s just too minutes from the junction up the road there for sundon from the motorway to the place where we parked and then it’s a really really nice leisurely walking of about 20

Minutes and it is so rewarding guys hopefully in the video there’s some incredible climbs coming up the gladus has done some things today I didn’t expect her to do on Swamp claws we do have comp pins with us as well and they will get a shout at some point but so

Far I haven’t really felt the need to switch to competition pins and this has been beautiful today the sun’s been out the birds are tweeting the sun is out the is blue there might be some fun anecdotes we talk about real stuff one of the things that we don’t do on the

Channel here and we do Waffle but one of the things we don’t do here on the channel is the idea of these videos is for me to be able to uh bring uh content to you that you’re going to find useful I’m not trying to sell you anything I think you don’t need

I’m never going to review stuff like a lot of the influencers are doing I don’t know why I did that because they are influencing our decisions I mean I’m hoping that I am going to influence your decisions but let me just say a lot of the channels

That are getting stuff for nothing they are trying to maintain their relationship with the manufacturer or the reseller I’m not I’m trying to maintain my relationship with you if something is crap I’m going to tell you sundon pits is not crap this is an excellent episode guys stay tuned for

You’ll come in on behind me there are parking spaces outside the properties please try to be respectful of the people that live here there’s a few more parking spaces I do believe there’s some rock crawler guys here today and there’s some more spots just down the road here as well we’re going

To get in on the trail I’m going to show you the route that you need to follow to find the Rocks so this is what you’re looking for if you see the black goates there on your right and you see this public foot path gate in front of you

Then you’re on the right track glis goes under the gate and this is where we’re going to be turning right if we want to go down to the Rocks that’s where the cars parked we’ve walked up the ikin field W public foot path and we’ve turned right when we

Have to do the next turn I’ll come back to you I actually forgot guys along the way there’s some really nice bits I’ll be showing them to you so ignore that I’ll be back with you rubbish I’ll just said there’s some really good spots on

The way in it so that’s why this uh this particular Trail is a rock crawler Trail I’m going to come up with a category for trails that appear Trails rocks that appear rocks and then crawler Trails the this is definitely a crawler Trail cuz this place has got both in case you’re

Interested one of the reasons that I’ve started doing this is because I was rushed into a hospital with very high blood pressure shortness of breath I have been tipe to diabetes for a long time and I refus to take the medication because then it really does stay a progressive

Disease and I believe with exercis and diet I cannot cure diabetes but reverse it however poor mental health has meant that I’ve really struggled to do that and uh if I can get out get a bit of exercise do some trailing with the with one of the trucks and create some

Content for you guys then that’s what I’m going to do and while this is not a hard walk it is quite a long R I’ll put the mileage there estimated and there are some little Hills but nothing to uh this this will be one of the scores that I’m going to

Create scoring system I’m going to put over there this will be one of the things the ease of the the the trail will be graded so like a five would be really hard no yeah and a one one would be really easy i’ think about that so the

Best or the hardest will be fives and the easiest or the worst will be ones um yeah so I’ll see you down there we got some really cool bits up here guys as you can see there are obstacles everywhere and I’d say that was an obstacle right there maybe a little bit

Too much for the Gladis you noce I don’t call it a Gladius anymore cuz most of the Gladius has gone oh go on Gladius don’t let Gladius fool you she wasn’t that capable when she was a Gladius it’s only since she’s become a Gladius that she’s now that

Capable and listen to how noisy that opinion is that is a part of the Gladius that still remains that I’m really struggling to deal with look at this through here this is another one of the sections that is on route to your craw and this right here guys this is steep one thing

I’ve noticed those of you that create video content will know that the camera angle never just does it justice like this in here this is pretty steep guys not something think that you would want to Tumble down it could end your truck so a lot of the places over here at

Sundon I would say treat with caution I’m not going to go up any further but if you feel up to it if you’re young not like me and you’re agile again not like me you can follow it up there and there’s a little route where you go to

Another section and then you can come down and there’s multiple routes up and down this guys make it as interesting or as uninteresting as you like let’s go find the rest of it Gladis hopefully this gives you some idea of just how stap it is now Gladius Gladius not Gladius

Gladius uh is a very very good Ascender so Gladius climbs very well as you can see even Gladis is struggling a little bit on this climb here now I’ve been here with many trucks that have also really struggled with this section so if you want to just hop

Over if you want to just hop over you can hop over here Hi how are you doing you all right you can hop over here this is a little bit less Tricky thank you what’s that is that an electric motorbike oh wow that’s cool H right good thanks so I going to turn around there guys and bring the truck back down and we’ll head on down to the pit you probably just heard me talking there

He’s a young man there I come too early oh young man you wash your mouth out s water you naughty young man young man driving an electric motorcross bike so cool come on Gladis from the section we were just act go there’s loads and loads of little

Lines up through these trees on the banking to the left some of it is easy some of it is actually really quite difficult um I you decide which of those this is um I’ve made it up here a lot of times yeah so that’s a little bit tricky

But that dirt actually provides some good traction despite my terrible one-handed steering we’ve made it up there there’s a few different ways to climb this section we can get out there I’m my thumb isn’t quite long enough for the for the FTX there we go one of the things guys

One of the things with this radio is that look I have to really really stretch my thumb out the Dumbo are so much better the FTX radios is it a fly sky or something just too far away so there’s lots of this on the way in guys you can spend like everywhere

You look this stuff you spend a lot of time here just playing on the way in this is somewhere if you’re running the small shorty packs I would definitely bring a few packs with you make sure you hydrate it can be dangerous over here there’s some slopes and stuff to fall

Down that will be part of the rating as well so make sure somebody knows you’re here superb make sure somebody knows you here there is good phone signal out here so just make sure you’ve got a fully charged mobile phone with you and you should be good to go ideally you come

With a friend unfortunately I don’t have Any well not with me today not with me today I am lucky enough to have a few good friends actually I wish you guys were here by the way just everywhere you look guys there’s some really gnarly lines that with a little bit of detritus moving and cleaning you could pick some

Fantastic lines up through these tree rooted Banks to the left of you as you walk into sunon short pits guys this is one of the steeper craws I don’t know whether Gladius has it in her to get up this but we’re going to try hopefully we don’t fall backwards because that would

Be quite a tumble there’s the old motocross bikes look at that there’s a load of them Look oh brilliant man brilliant said those guys are off to have some fun there for sure let’s see if we can finish off this little climb up here come on Glades you can do it or can you no we’re going to back out of that one

Guys we’re going to back out of that one if I had both hands available for steering I would probably have a bit more of an effort at that but I haven’t because I’m filming this for you guys so here we are guys we’re at the first turning that first bit there the first

Time I came here and I saw the bits to the right and left I didn’t even feel like I needed the rocks at the end of this bit but the rocks at the end of this bit are incredible it’s so worth it so the guys on the motorbikes have stopped just there

Um it’s going to be a bit noisy for audio let’s be honest so while I’ve got you guys when we get to this first turning oh they’re moving off when you get to this first turning you turn left so we entered at the top by turning

Right out of the alleyway and then when you get to this maximum height sign don’t know if you can see that there to the to the left of me there’s a maximum height sign for an electric cable and there is also some foot paath signs you turn left left and then it

Splits up into a few different ways but if you stay on the tarmac Road you’ll find your way to the next turning and then we’re pretty much at the Rock so it’s literally right then left and then left again and you’re at the Rocks just seems like a lot because I waffled right

Let’s be honest just a quick note of Interest guys this little between these two trees the pillars of wood here these two trees just down this track there’s a really interesting looks like a bomb shelter so if you come down here do check that out I believe it’s

Where they used to keep the ammunition for the chalk mine that’s just around this corner so just after the turn in for the the abandoned bom shelter or whatever it is you see you come to this little section here and it opens up there’s a little conrete slab through

There and like I said it opens up into this concrete slab this is the first one of those and it is predominantly clay and chalky guys so again it can be pretty slippery as you can see there’s some proper four-wheel drives get over here and play on this stuff too so you know

You’re in the right sort of territory for a rock crawl the left of where I was talking from right now guys there is a crawl or a climb there that would not be for the faint of heart like that is almost vertical and these guys on the

Motorbikes go up and down this stuff more power to them I might have had to go when I was younger but that over there if it didn’t kill you it would kill your bike if you love your mud there’s plenty of that down there and just look at the hills in the

Distance there’s that def defying hill we were looking at just now at the top of the screen there wow plenty of mud for you mud guys so we’re just about to arrive at the first of the sections of this group of rocks that is the reason we’ll walk all the way in

Here and this guys this has got some epic lines on I’m just going to set the camera down here and see if we can find a couple of lines up the Rocks so they swung Clos with design for mud but as you can see they really at home on a bit of rocker as well just going to shuttle across and there we go we’re up but Gladis is pretty good at ascending let’s see if she can get

This using every little bit of the fusion slow control we got a little bit rear wheel happy there so we pulled out let’s see if we can make one of these guys you can actually see where the Digger Claws from when this was a quaria still left in the rock face and

You can actually get a wheel and tire stuck in them this place man it’s got a lot of history here guys come on Glades you can do this come on Glades can you make the climb at the top this is tricky up here guys this is really tricky oh she got a

Little bit unhappy there G Gladis right so this is the first section guys we’re going to move on but you can actually have a ton of fun you could create a competition just on this first section here hopefully you can still see Gladius there I’m just going

To show you another one of the lines across the top here yeah you could easily set out a competition course right here let’s move to the next section so we’re going to see if the auto tracking on the DJI osmo that I I film my videos with is going to work

Today oh it found it so it lost it straight away but then it recaptured it so that’s good it probably doesn’t help that the Gladius is gray and the rocks are gray and the skies are gray and the gray and the is that’s a song isn’t it Oh we’ve lost it no we found it we’ve lost it oh yeah we we’ve reacquired it so this is a nice little section here guys good place to test side Hill and there’s plenty of loose rocks here if you wanted to you could move some rocks around and create some lines I’ve filled

A few gaps that have made Rock craws here possible in the past it’s kind of fun to do and uh going back to my health issues oh subject lost well that’ll do so yeah and you know with my full health as long as I don’t overdo it moving rocks around it’s exercise right

Let’s try another line up there as you can see guys you could you can really make make your own lines if you come to this place and you can have a lot of oh can we w we we slide that round and rescue it oh no she’s

Turtled right we are recording so let’s see if we can get this next line I’ve never actually driven across here in previous uh visits to this place but I’ve just seen it like to the right there up that way guys there’s some proper rock crawler line there like if

You had a shafty cheatah rig maybe a like a well tuned moer or something then there’s definitely a line there for you nice well done Gladis I think we’re going to use that we leg oh we’re not going to get That Lis flip so hard back onto her wheels that she actually flipped her chest back onto her roof again right are you going to reacquire that Mr osmo it would seem not so there we go um I’ve actually bought the comp pins with me today guys

To see if we can get some really really good extra performance I’m not recommending you bring your favorite druck here guys I mean I would I would because you just do the trailing stuff but just be prepared if you’re going to do this slightly more tricky stuff then there’s

A good chance you’re going to beat your rig up a little bit but we’ve been here multiple times with the gladdest on this shell that’s where that’s where it goes wrong so we just fell off we fell off there a little bit I think if we can we can stay in

There we might get this guys yeah it looks like the camera has lost Gladius again but we’re going to focus on the crawl so it looks like we’re not going to get that one without a bit real speed be interesting to see that one with the comp pins guys

Let me reset the camera and we’ll take a look at this next line that wasn’t the loine that we were looking for these aren’t the droids you’re looking for but it’s a line oh just beautiful go gladus very nice indeed I’m just going to put the camera there guys to one side

Because this is the section where I fell off the rocks and ground the camera this is a really nice accent and descent guys this will test your rigs this one as you can see we got a little bit light on the way down let’s see if Gladis can get up here today

With the swamp goes On oh when I say we were close there guys I mean we were really really close start over on the road at this time see if we can shutle our way into the CL you can see the front end on GL there it’s staying pretty well

Planted he’s trying to stay on our feet as well is there looks like they more might be some more grip out here to the right guys I was going to say you know what if you’ve got there you’ve probably done it but I’m sure you’ll agree that was not pretty

Right let’s see if we can find a way up this section I’m pretty sure we can we might just have to search around a little bit so the swamp FL is really likeing certain sections of this some of this rock has got really good B you might

Come here guys and actually find that your rigs perform a lot better than you expected them too because of just how gnarly some of these rocks are in terms of their grip profile can we get down there without killing ourselves oh when the cameras followed you yes good Job oh we reacquired good job camera so I’m just trying to shutle the front end over so our link to a video guys we actually came out here you actually came out here nice you m for the r Will C in ice I thought it would be interesting

Just to see how the comps and the swamp fls did did in less than ideal conditions can we craw this stay over front end stay over we’re getting a little bit too much push guys see if we can just grab a bit out there yeah there we

Go guys sundon short pits is just so much fun so no word of a liar guys I’m having a wh of time um Gladis is performing yeah all right uh I no doubt in in this situation on these rocks here uh that Gladius would perform a lot

Better uh if the pum pins were on so we’re going to switch to those next but if you if you’re looking for something in Bedford Che it’s 2 minutes from the M1 this is the place to come trust me there are other places but there’s nowhere like this that I know of

This near to me it’s like a 15 or 20 minute drive and there’s all this expans of rocks we haven’t we’ve only just done this tiny little section here guys and we’re here and then there’s all of this here to the left of me and then there’s a

Whole other section over there that we haven’t got to yet so I’m going to film some more of that I’m going to do a little bit less talking we’ll stick a bit of crawler music on rock crawling music on and then I’ll come back to you

When we start to head back to the Car N N Oh A So I’m happy filming this video guys and uh I can hear I can hear a trx4 gearbox coming through the woods from miles away as you do and uh those guys from FY mackers have turned up so I’ve just been having a chat with Barry You’ just been

Listening to it what result um and there’s a red cat sent up here which we don’t see in the UK really so fantastic thanks very much yeah I think it’s one of those things where we kind of it’s Pete’s first time um oh wow and we always stick together

Uh if we’ve got any um uh there’s some PL clubs that we’ve we’ve been out with if you have a breakdown we always stop and we we like to take the Mickey out of everybody it’s like a it’s like a Top Gear yeah absolutely and and it’s and I

Think that’s that’s what it’s about because uh J jail show let me show the line yeah no it’s nice very very cap so it just shows you guys you know if you do come up here there’s a good chance that you’re going to meet good people and uh about yeah what it’s all

About hopefully you make some new friends and you get to see in a a model that just doesn’t exist in the UK really if you could sum up the sunden pit tril and rock experience what would you say to be honest the only thing that we’re

Missing is a bit of water that’s the only thinging yeah but the thing is when when we come when we come from the the car park as you come down uh there’s a uh a trail and it goes onto the road yeah as you come down uh off to the right hand

Side there’s a trail that goes through and that’s what we’ve just done and it takes you all the way through through the woods and everything else and then and then comes up here so I mean we normally spend we get we meet up at like 10:00 and we we’re still here till like

Some there’ve been sometimes and that’s the reason why we put lights on on the vehicles uh high beams and stuff like that cuz we Trail through when it’s dark when it’s dark brilliant so but yeah it’s well worth a visit and 100% well that wraps this one up guys if you’ve
