    That’s a triple chain-ring, the chain should never have to be in the either end of the extremes.

    There’s no “fixing” this, you should simply never change into these combination of gears.

  2. Per the title, wondering if chain length might have something to do with a chain dislodging problem I’m having that I posted about in another thread but didn’t have any responses:

    I’m having some issues with chain dislodging off of the smallest chainring when the chain is sitting in the largest 2 cogs. Here’s a video of the issue replicated for reference: [https://imgur.com/a/eLsU0wZ](https://imgur.com/a/eLsU0wZ)

    All components are **brand new/never used** – chain (KMC X9), crankset (22-32-44), rear mech (Deore LX M570 – set to friction shifting if that matters), cassette (Sunrace 9speed 11-34t).

    Chainline seems acceptable. Limiting screws on both RD and FD seem fine. Currently using a 118mm length bottom bracket spindle (Octalink v2); even tried going more inward with a shorter BB at 113mm, but this still did not fix the issue. Tried also flipping the smallest chainring, and still no dice.

    Could it just be the chain length that could be causing the issue? The chain seems to be optimally sized, and judging from the appearance of the big-big gear combination (pictured) I don’t think I’d want to risk going any shorter than this. Is it already too short as-is? Pedaling in every other gear combo works just fine.

    Any other thoughts/ ideas on what could be causing the issue? Happy to provide additional details.

  3. I think the size is spot on. Because of the triple chain ring you just get extremes on both ends. Shouldn’t be an issue when you’re actually riding.

  4. While you will should never use these extreme ratios on either end of the spectrum. I reccomend having your chain long enough so that if you accidently shift to the big – big combo, you dont rip the derailleur off the frame.

  5. The chain is sized as well as it can be but the problem is that your derailleur can’t handle the total capacity.

    Either get a higher capacity derailleur or just be really careful to not ever go big big because that first picture look like the RD is going to snap off with the slightest bump.
