Hey guys,
I recently bought a Marin 4 corners on FBMP for $160. The guy was business owner moving and needed it gone asap (not stolen). Well, it had TRP SPYRE calipers and I planned to buy a set for my diverge as they’re two pistons not single. I pulled them off and put some $18/pair Amazon calipers on and they were trash! I had to do the whole BMX shoe stop to prevent getting hurt on a huge down hill. I ended up finding AVID BB5’s on Jenson USA and they are amazing; even mind blowingly strong. They feel as stronger if not stronger than the cheap hydros on my road bike. If you’re looking upgrade your mechanical disc brake calipers, consider the AVID BB5 ($25/each) or BB7 ($50/each), it’s an amazing upgrade and you can adjust the pads without pulling the cable.
