totally new to cycling, i want to do a sprint tri. i don’t need to win/place just want to do it, so dont need a super light racing bike. just trying to get a bit more active and incorporate activity into my daily life!
i was recommended to look at gravel bikes and this one is listed for $600 on fb market. i was going to see if she’d take $500 cash but since i’m totally new to this i thought i’d check if that’s overpaying…

It’s a great general purpose first bike but it’s really slow compared to proper road bikes.
1x front gearing is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing for ease of maintenance but cursed for its lack of range and lack of top speed.
650b is comfortable but slow.
This is a great commuting bike, a fine bike for dirt trails or cruising around a park, but it’s the last thing I would choose for any kind of racing.
This is like *the* bike for noobies.
Super chill riding position, nothing fancy, cheap to service, durable, practical, and affordable. This bike wont be the best (or close at all) at anything you throw at it, but it will be OK at everything. Road, fire roads, single track, it will do all of that OK.
The bike retails new for $999. $500 is a fair deal for both of you. No one is going to be clamoring over you to buy this bike.
Ps. make sure it fits. Probably the most important part.
