Maybe try finding some lighter tires? Rotational weight usually makes the most difference. Not sure how heavy these are though.

When she says too heavy is that like for putting on a car rack or moving it in and out of the shed or something? Personally I think my bike is a bit heavy when I have to carry it out the house down the steps but as soon as I am riding they generally donât make a difference at all and I canât even feel the weight. Maybe if I had a heavy saddlebag swaying then I could for example but not just the bike.
Maybe she just hasnât gotten used to it and needs to ride it more as it feels different not just about the weight?
Either way the bike is cool as hell and I love that you brought it back to life. Nice gesture to your wife!

ditch the massive wide range cassette for a lighter aluminum road cassette and a road derailleur. get a compact double for the front and smaller lighter cyclocross tires or something

All these commenters trying to lose a few ounces by switching out the drivetrain or some nonsense aren’t going to help the issue. You could stick a full water bottle on there and not even notice the difference (Unless she’s just incredibly small and weak). If this bike feels heavy for her then most bikes are going to feel heavy for her.
My guess is the tires and wheels feel sluggish compared to what she’s used to. Rotational mass is quite a bit different then a few ounces tacked onto the frame.
What tire setup is on the bike that she likes?

We live in a college town and my wife never rode get 3x bike but sheâll ride her 1x. She likes the simplicity, sheâs not a real cyclist. Itâs mostly flat around here anyway.
Maybe itâs not the weight and she just doesnât like it.

I took off the quill adapter, Thomson stem, and Cannondale Cruise Control bar off because I realized that’s almost $200 that can be undone with 1 bolt and if it got stolen on her watch I’d lose my mind.
