One of the wildest countries in Europe: Romania. In the summer of 2019 I cycled across the magnificent country of Romania, conquering many of the Carpathians’ highest mountains along the way.

Starting in Belgrade, Serbia, I followed the Danube river towards the border with Romania. Through National Parks and mountain ranges I searched for the remotest of paths and most beautiful mountain passes.

  1. What are the odds? I have a Trek 920 and a Hilleberg Soulo and I use it for touring! Next you will tell me you use a Brooks saddle and ride tubeless tires!
I do carry a bit more stuff than you as I use an ortlieb handlebar bag along with the trunk bag over the rear rack attached to the rear panniers.
I live in Iceland and do my touring here. Am however looking for routes in Europe to try out when I can squeeze a longer holiday from work….

  2. 12:00 I was going to say what a hero you are taking that footpath with that bike, pushing so hard. The people in the countryside don't really know what different bicycle types are for.

  3. Niels, congratulations! I hope you liked Romania 😀 Try to use mapy(cz), it is a very good app gps, in my oppinion better than any app, even maps(me). Here the things you find on the app…

But Mapy(cz) offers so much more.

You can use it even in airplane mode 😀

Chose outdoor map, and when you zoom you will have coloured lines with the names of the tracks, so helpfull!

Have a good trip, and all the best!

  4. No way you have been there ! I'm from Anina, Romania and is next to Bigar waterfall, You have been in places and did things that I just dream about. Currently I'm in uk for work in last years, but I must say a big THANK YOU ! I get to see once again the places I love
