Hey y’all. Long-time road biker and could use some advice on a new mountain bike without breaking the bank. There’s a Cannondale Trail 5 from REI that has 1X10 microSHIFT Advent X, hydraulic brakes, and 100 mm front fork. It’s on sale for about $670 and I have an REI gift card for $100. Worth it or hold out for something else? Pros and cons? What is the upgradeability of this bike?

Edit: I’ll be doing some easy to medium trail riding with friends but do not foresee doing anything crazy for a while (still a roadie as of now haha). I do have some interest in bikepacking as I do enjoy both biking and backpacking.

Solid bike for an absolute beginner rider. If you have any bike handling skills you’re probably going to outgrow this extremely fast, especially the fork. You can get a lot more bike if you up your budget to about $1000 you can get a lot more bike. I’ve noticed a lot of the rocky mountain hardtails are on sale right now
