Well good morning it’s a gorgeous day it’s a Friday and uh and I’m not at work so I couldn’t help it um decided to jump on Roger and go for a little day out now I don’t want to go too far um I just fancy a little pole a little local
Pole oh look at the Tails a pretty um so yeah I fancy just doing a little bit of a local ride today and one thing that I’ve noticed that uh I don’t want to happen is I I don’t want to be taking my local area for granted because I actually live in a
Beautiful part of welshire I’m so lucky I’m far enough away from Swindon itself to not be actually Swindon um but I’ve got all the convenience that goes with it but on the doorstep literally I’ve got beautiful roads and beautiful views so I thought today I’m just going on a
Bit of a local Jolly I keep going through ere on my rides and you kind of get glimpses of of the stones and stuff but I thought I might actually Park up today and get off and go and have a look where else do I fancy going there’s a
Couple of little local places which both um Wilshire man Sandy and uh Dicky from Dicky Min Cycles they’ve they’ve both been there and they look really interesting oh gravel gravel on on the road uh they look really interesting so I thought I might pop along to some of
Those bit sites that they’ve seen so sorry if you Watchers of all the channels but you might might be repeating itself um but I’m going to start with um my commute route which uh you have seen once before in part when it was flooded uh when I went to
Sabac uh but this is actually a gorgeous route when it’s nice and sunny so it’s a little bit hit and miss today I’m going to give it a go so on part of my commute route um starts with hackpen Hill and hackpen Hill has one of wil’s I think it’s nine white
Horses uh there are a lot now these white horses are sort of carved for various reasons in various locations um into the chalk Downs cuz it’s very chalky here so when you carve out the grass you get left with bright white chalk underneath and uh
Yeah they do it on the sides of hills and you can see weird things like horses why not so I’m not sure if you can make this out yet but uh up there on the side of the hill is the chalk white horse So this is the bottom of hackpen Hill and it goes up this gorgeous little wiggly wiggly which uh I’ll show you in a minute this is what I mean want to say I’m lucky now I’ve done my research and sensibly as a drone operator I have drone license um but dive got an
Operator’s license the Drone is licensed and I’ve got an app which I use which shows me the sort of no fly zones um this drone itself has got an inbuilt don’t fly so it won’t actually let you fly if it’s in a um restrict area like airspace Etc um can see a helicopter
Over there so I’m just going to wait for that to uh trundle on Past H Is your bike bike friend oh it’s quite windy no one of the Drone didn’t like it Now this is the actual car park for the uh crossing of the Ridgeway with the hatan hill white Horse right let’s go and have a little look at the uh the chalky Horse Oh So this will be a good test for the uh DJI mic I’ve got my wind buffer on so hopefully you’ll be able to hear some of what I’m saying this this is why I couldn’t get the Drone shot it’s um it’s a bit Gusty up
Here uh so yeah drone shot will have to come another day but this behind me oh hang on I’ve got the face tracker on that’s not going to work it doesn’t track cracker horse’s face no rude comments uh but this is the uh hacken Hill white chalk horse so uh I’ll show
You what that’s made of kind of like a sticky kind of chalky residue stuff chalk basically which uh gets very soft when it rains so you got some larger chunks and then you’ve got this kind of paste it goes into like a a chalk paste which uh yeah and they do come up
And they maintain it and they sort of pick all the bits of grass out so it doesn’t get too overgrown um that’s his that’s his eye and his ears yes he’s set on this beautiful Hillside Okay time to move on I think so that was hen Hill which was originally built I think it was in 1830 or 1860 something like that it was to celebrate Queen Victoria’s coronation so whenever that was and it was built by a local trap and apparently somebody from the pub helped
Him out as well that uh says a lot so let’s go to malra cuz that’s where we’re heading anyway and I might try and get a photo of the uh the mound there merin’s m which is actually inside the grounds of maror college so you can’t uh you can’t
Get to it um but you can see it from the road apparently it’s uh the what the hell apparently it’s the sister mound to silbury Hill sheeps this is the bend of the Moment of Truth oh there’s water on the road which means there is still a bit of water there that
Roger I’ve just got you nice and clean as well oh pants great so malra old historic Market Town old buildings very large High Street Why okay I’m coming into the college don’t tell anyone there was nowhere else to turn around guys sorry So I managed to get a couple of sneaky shots from the road with the uh Merlins Mound right where should we go now for some Fun let’s go do a brury have some thatch Cottages whilst we Go bloody Fringe need to go back and see Meg my hairdresser for old Meg she does despair last time she did my hair for me she did it beautifully she colored it cut it straightened it oh it was beautiful I walked straight out of the hairdressers and put my helmet on oh
Blesser it is a nice day for biking but just up here we’ve got silvery Hill the largest man-made Hill in in Britain now the other day um managed to get some uh beautiful drone shots at Sunrise so disperse those here [Applause] And you used to be able to walk up silbury hill but you can’t anymore it’s uh it’s protected cuz uh it was all getting a little bit trashed still chopping windy okay it’s a bit of a walk but uh why not it’s a nice day let’s do This hey are you all right they asked me sitting with the glass who isy eyes glazed over looking at the sky said friend you know I love this city but sometimes you have to excuse me I let myself get lost up in my Mind and I go to my Countryside take some time remember sitting by the fire leaning back watching the Red Sky Sunset let those beir feet Sway and sweet do that WM Breeze in that piece of my Mind my Countryside sometimes I wonder why I left my home I fit in here but don’t belong I miss the grass and the sore beneath my feet peon rolls on Sunday morning I can smell the fresh warm coffee pouring though I am far from home home is not
Far from me I can go to My Country Side take some time remember night sitting by the fire leaning back watching the Red Sky Sunset let those bare feet Sway and swing feel that b breze in that piece of my mind my Countryside CU though I am far from home home is not far from me and one day you know I bring you there with me can And for Spe well there were some very uh very lovely ladies inside who were uh channeling the energy of this place and uh they got a little set up with the burning frankincense and the the drum and uh candles and uh yeah they’re doing their Thing well I’ve just inhaled some frankincense so that was a thing I’ve never done Before let go and see what else we can find oh dear did you know what I’m have to have something to eat It’s so nice to actually leisurely Ride Along these roads these these roads are quite um frequented by myself and my colleagues on our on our rounds um in fact I’ve got a photo of an ambulance just here just because why not This is looking quite familiar here oh hello by way what you saying what you saying Raj This is probably a really silly idea on your own Soon Thank You But it is Pleasant up here anyway apparently over there there something called long Tom standing Stone well I think having made the effort to get up here I need to go and see long Tom the standing Stone that is indeed a stone and it is Standing long Tom the standing Stone all right Mate this is I want to touch it and be transported into another portal oh no but’s warm it’s warm and kind of weirdly Shiny well thanks Tom well that was it that was such a a really nice day and I hope you enjoyed coming along with me and seeing some of the local sites and uh until the next time stay safe this is my country my damn country

I've done most of them over the years, spent a dark summer evening lying on top of the barrow with a female friend stargazing, I couldn't believe how many were up there at 11pm?? Amazing to stand there and look around a landscape that hasn't changed for thousands of years.
The only White Horse I know, serves a good Pint… ha ha!
Is this an extension of the South downs, as there is one of these somewhere in Sussex?
Well, this was a nice trip round Wilts with "the Stones"! An interesting video (once again) and a good idea including post codes for us! Thankx.
Wow, you crammed a lot into one day!
Lovely ride around the Wilts countryside. Couldn't help noticing the hedgerows were meticulously maintained – road surfaces not so much!
Great video Charlie, reminded me of my visits to family on my 1972 T120 650 Bonnie back in the day. They lived in Winterslow but we would spend the weekend at Crofton on the Kennet and Avon canal and help with steaming the pumping engines. Now that would be a good day out and I would love to see it in action. Cheers, ride safe. RM
Very enjoyable video to watch, especially on yet another dull wet day we have here in Kent.
You need to get fit….paramedic…huf puf…wheez…
I just ignore the high wind warnings for dji unless it's blowing a gale… They can compensate more than you think…. Google dji in high winds lol
An excellent vid. Thanks Charlie. Reminds us how lucky we are here in Britain. Rich history and beautiful countryside!
Hi Charlie Wiltshire is a beautiful part of England my favourite country for sure❤
Great video Charlie, loved it. Reminded me of when my brother and I visited Wiltshire and Salisbury 15 years or so ago. He was going through a really tough time (messy divorce) and I took him away for a few days just to let him clear his head. We visited lots of the burial mounds, stone circles and chalk horses (and Marlborough) and also drank far too much ale and whisky. It cheered him up no end though!!!!
Great video Charlie. Some of these places are on my list of places to see this year when I’m doing a two week tour of the UK by trike. Some I didn’t even know about. Thanks for putting the postcodes in as well
The horse is rubbish as artwork, I’m sure some art students could improve it. If it were done today the authorities would have it removed
Hi Charlie, I had just commented on Sandy's channel how much I love these Neolithic sites. More please.
Next time you are in North Wales, visit Bryn Celli Ddu on Anglesey/Ynys Môn, also plenty of other neolithic burial chambers. Also nice to see Bimble in common use 🙂
there used to be bike nights every wednesday at the Red Lion back in the 90's until the land lady changed and they put in a pay to park machine, two car parks full of bikes.
So often we look everyway except in our own backyard. Great Video
Never been to Wiltshire. Is there a car ban.?😅lovely ride thanks for showing us
Such a mystic area is Wiltshire thanks for the video it brings back memories I need to visit all the sites again.
What editing app do you use ?
In Sussex where I’m from we have a chalk fella called the “Long Man of Wilmington” if you’re ever down that way 👍
OMG I think the stone did it for you lol. Great video😀
Lovely vid Charlie. Great to accompany you on the journey. 👍
I use to eat Marathons hence may wonderful physique lol
Only in Wiltshire would you bump into a couple of witches!
Hi 😊 I love to watch your videos from you life on a bike. In July I am going to Spain from Norway on my Harley Pan America Special and it could be fun if you a on the road some where in Europe and we could meet and have a chat and a cup of te. best wishes Lasse
This area was my playground way back in the 1980's. Parking was free and speed limits were higher most of the time not enforced. This was the best time of my life. I never seen Merlin's Mount. Sidbury Hill always had water around it in winter. When they closed Stonehenge festival the travellers found alternatives. One of the small meeting places was the long barrow. No music or large groups. Just a few gathered there, just a load of candles to light the inside and the smell of "herbs" being smoked outside.
The shot at 7:01 reminds me of the Hergest Ridge album cover.
