Picked up a 1974 Schwinn Le Tour and have been having an absolute blast with it so far. Used to heavy gearing and the lack of range from having only commuted via fixed gear for the last year and a half. Will be taking this bad boy down to the local co-op for some new brake levers, a clean-up, and to see if I can swap out the stem shifters for bar-ends or downtube shifters. These bikes are a blast!

Tons of love for the chicago schwinns. Not so much for the specific bikes but the freedom and utility these machines give you. Don’t have to look far to see a boomer remember when his parents got him a varsity and he rode it what must have been 50 miles a day until he went to college.

My bike of that period was a cheaper Japanese version: a Palm 10-speed with downtube shifters. It lasted over a dozen years and thousands of miles. Yes, it felt like a rocket and had low enough gears to climb steep hills.

My first fixie was an old Le Tour with a black spray paint job. I miss that death trap of a bicycle.
