Motorhome Trip to Waleswood, Rother Valley Country Park

We head off in the Motorhome to Waleswood Caravan and Camping Park, a privately owned site situated next to Rother Valley Country Park in South Yorkshire.
We stayed at this site in October 2023 and really enjoyed it. It has 163 pitches, a mix of hard standing and serviced pitches for all types of leisure vehicle. There is a camping area for tents too. Pitches are huge, ours was 10×10 metres and fully serviced, costing only £25.50 per night off peak. The is a licensed cafe on site which sells drinks and a limited range of food. The two service blocks are heated and nicely finished. There are two Motorhome service points on site too.

You can walk down to the Country Park and enjoy a walk around the water, take part in some water sports or go on a bike ride. Bike hire is available at the Country Park, if you don’t have your own bike.

We really enjoyed cooking our HelloFresh meal in the Motorhome and have a lovely trip to Waleswood. We would absolutely recommend this beautiful site.

Hello and welcome back to here we toe so we’re in the motor home and we’re heading off again in the rain proper motor homing weather today we’re heading to a site called waleswood now waleswood is a site at Rother Valley Country Park in South Yorkshire Jules and I actually

Went there in October last year and absolutely loved it what I like about this site is it’s almost brand new it’s got huge pitches it’s really good value and if you’ve ever been to love to stay this is almost like a Yorkshire version of love to stay it’s got a cafe on site

It’s got an amazing service block as I say huge service pitches lovely sort of um Road around the site and you can head down to R Valley Country Park itself uh it’s about a 10-minute walk or you can go on your bikes and from there you can

Do water sports you can walk or you can go cycling so this is a really good site and very good value and going to tell you more about it when we actually get there I like to thank hellofresh who have sponsored today’s Vlog Jules and I actually had our first hellofresh

Experience last night and we cooked Perry Perry halumi skewers with um chicken and chips and you know what it’s the first time we’ve actually cooked together in years so we were we were quite impressed with it but I’m going to tell you more about hellofresh when we

Get to site cuz we’re going to be doing some cooking later on it’s not a tin to tum um but we are going to cook some tea in the motor home right let’s saddle ourselves up and head off to waleswood hopefully you’ll find this interesting this site is perfect if you’ve got a

Caravan motor home camper or a tent CU they do have grass pitches in the better weather right I’ll see what Wales Would He So there we go we’ve arrived at waleswood and you can see the drive in there it is really accessible no matter what size outfit you’ve got and they’ve got some huge pitches here up to 14 M uh by I think it’s 12 M so this site really

Will take even probably the big RV so unless you’re over 14 M you will be fine here so I’ve arrived the barrier opens because they take your Edge when you book I’ve had my pitch allocated already which is pitch five I’ve parked here I just need to dive into reception um let

Them know I’m here and then we’ll go to our pitch which is pitch five so this is the reception block just in front of us and that one there to the right that is actually the service block and you can see a little playground just through

There but I’ll show you all that when we um get set up the tent field is actually just down to the left when you come in down down there a little bit wet for tents today I think unfortunately it is raining although tomorrow I think it’s

Meant to be dryer so I’ll dive in and then we’ll go get set up on our pitch I’ll explain a bit more about the pitches how much the pitches cost and there we go right I’ll be back in a minute so that’s it we’re on Pitch five you can

Choose your pitch if you want so waleswood basically they have 63 pitches the smallest pitches are I believe 8 m by 8 m hard standing with electric um I’ve got a 10×10 service pitch then they have a 10x 12 and then I think it’s 12×14 but this pitch so I’ll show you so

It’s fully serviced hard standing and this pitch tonight is £ 2550 P um they’re really good size pitches I’ll just come to this side as well so even if you got really large unit a caravan you can see You’d have room for your toe car your Caravan and

Your awning you’ve got your service point just down there so water and gray waste disposal and they’re really well spaced out so our neighbors literally I’ve got sort of some um trees there and then uh grass here now the country Park’s actually behind us as you know we

Go nose in because our doors on the right hand side Jules is just doing the electric um but yeah it’s really well spaced out and you can see from the other pictures um sort of the nice grally hard standing so as I say this time of year um it’s

The 10th of March today Mother’s Day uh £25.50 for a uh fully serviced huge pitch even in High season there’s still I think this pitch in High season I mean August is34 a night so it’s still in incredibly good value proper Yorkshire value but the reason I say it’s a little

Bit like love to stay is it has that sort of feel about it if you’ve ever been there but yeah so what fcking Yorkshire day here yeah yeah great Yorkshire Yorkshire day we’ve got rain but tomorrow is meant to be nice it’s not cold it’s not cold so what we’re

Going to do today though well it’s a bit cold Jules to be honest I’m a little chilly but what we’re going to do is we’re just going to get ourselves sorted in the motor home and then um tomorrow’s a drive day so we are going to head down

To the Country Park um so there we go that is waleswood we have arrived and we’ll catch you a little bit later on once we’ve got ourselves sorted out well unfortunately the weather has not improved as you can see out the window it is pretty bleak so we’ve not

Really done anything apart from eat Pringles eat white chocolate Kit Kat chunkies and some um samosas so that’s all we’ve done um what we will be doing though is tomorrow first thing we’re going to fire out cuz it is meant to be dry so we’ll show you the site properly

And we’ll have a wander down to the r Valley Country Park in the meantime it’s time to eat on top of all those other bits we have just eaten now at the start of the blog I mentioned about hellofresh so hellofresh is basically an online subscription where you order food it’s

Delivered to your home and you get fresh meals that you cook now we’ve never tried this before but we’ve had a go and to be fair we’re quite impressed so what I like about it is you place your order they deliver it you get menu cards like this all your ingredients come packaged

So there’s not waste because you’ve got the right amount of food for the right amount of people for the meal you’re going to cook you can also CH choose a variety of meals so you could choose from meat options vegan vegetarian pescatarian healthy options if you want

A 650 calorie meal which isn’t something I particularly wanted and you can also order quite easy cook meals which is hopefully going to be ideal in the motor home as you know I can’t cook I don’t cook but I’m certainly going to give this a go in the limited space of the

Motor home so tonight I’m doing Caribbean spiced barbecue pork fried rice easy for you to say so yeah the Box arrived at our house we’ve got our packaged meals um so we brought the bits with us and we follow the instructions pricewise this works out quite economical depending on the meal you can

Choose um it starts from just over3 per portion per person so yeah I think to be fair it doesn’t seem a particularly bad idea so what I’m going to do is I’m going to start cooking I’m not going to bore you to death with the whole process

Or embarrass myself either um so yeah let’s get cooking we have got a discount code so there is a QR code somewhere maybe here or here or somewhere you can either click that code or you can use the link in the description below and go to the hellofresh website where you

Enter here we toe and that’s going to give you 60% off your first order and then 20% off the next two months orders and there’s also some free gifts apparently they get th thrown in so 60% off your first order and then 20% off for the next two months and there’s the

QR code and the link down there right let’s see this is what it’s meant to look like let’s see what it does look like right let’s crack on okay so that is my set the name of it Caribbean SP R barbecue pork fried rice a quick recipe 20 minutes and to be fair

Probably is about what it has taken me this is the picture I think mine’s looking better because I actually have sprinkled some green stuff on it I don’t know what you call it but it’s green stuff and look at that so that compared to that I’m quite impressed well I’m

Very impressed and I know you lot have never seen me cook really anything because I’m no good but you know what I’ll actually say that this makes me cook because I’ve got all the ingredients I’ve got a recipe card and I’m actually quite enjoying cooking as I

Say last night I cooked those skewers and tonight I’ve done this right Jules and I are going to eat our tea look how amazing this is so we’re going to eat um and then that’s it for for this evening so hello fresh we have got as I say an

Offer here we toe the um link will be in the description below 60% off your first order and 20% off your next two months and some free gifts I don’t know what those will be but yeah so there we go right brilliant uh we’ll crack on once

We’ve eaten I think we’ll probably see you tomorrow morning when the weather should be better and we can get out there so enjoy your evening and I’ll see you in the morning morning well great news neither of us suffered any food poisoning as a result of my cooking last night um to be

Fair that barbecue pork was really nice the fried rice pork thing that I did really enjoyed it we both gave it an8 out of 10 which isn’t bad really so yeah so this morning the rain has just about passed there’s a bit of a breeze today a

Bit misly um so unfortunately the view is not quite as stunning as it was when I was here um in October but I’ll just show you this way so we’re on Pitch five let’s say it is a bit gray in the sky I’m afraid um there’s a second service

Block over there and then the view from our pitch and this what I mean about the pitch is you can see how much space there is sort of between everybody and how large these pitches are we’re really lucky we’ve got a load of grass in front

Of us then we’ve got this nice sort of little wooded area as well um so plenty of space I really do recommend this site what we’re going to do is we’re going to head off next on foot and just show you around the site a bit more and then

We’re going to walk down to Rother Valley Country Park and then we might get some breakfast um in the cafe here on site so we’ll just see how the day goes right let’s crack on I’ll get schedules and we’ll head off right we ventured off the motor home

Is behind us so this is where we came in that was the reception area that’s the facility block there that we’ve been using and then this here is a motor home service Point there’s two motor home service points on the site and this is the bin area so this is where you’re

Going to come in now I so our pictures behind us and then this sort of Ventures off into the site itself there’s a children’s play area just over to my left now you can either head off in that direction if your pitch is down there or

You carry Straight on now this last time I was here I noticed some really nice pitches here again you can’t see it cuz it’s like gorillas in the midst but they had a really nice view sort of over the the hills there which today you can’t see a thing that’s the other service

Block just there there so another large service block now the service blocks are really really good they’re practically brand new few years old I think this site is actually owned by the council and it’s run by um well part of the r Valley Country Park but I presume Rother

Room um now Within These service blocks really nice and warm you go in there’s plenty of toilet cubicles there’s uh sinks you’ve got showers there’s even a little little separate shower room as well so you’ve got your showers and you’ve got uh mirrors and hair dryers as

Well um so they are really well equipped as I say so those are the facility blocks there’s also laundry on site so now we just come down a little bit lower down um the site and I’ll just stop here so you can see again some of these different size pitches and in different

Areas and just come around there and then obviously you can see sort of bushes and the pitches right I’m not going to walk any further down into the site it was just to give you a bit of an idea how it’s sort of teered and leveled

Um I just come back up here again but you can see from here how there is plenty of space um on all the pitches and between the pitches you like it don’t you Joel I do I love it yeah we both like this one we’re definitely going to come back

Later in the year when the weather’s a bit better and do the cycle route again because down at the Country Park which I’ll show you you can get onto the strands uh cycle Network route number six I think it is um and literally head off to Chesterfield which is what we did

Last time and we found a really nice cafe down there um just on the canal side right what we’ll do we’re now going to walk out of the park um sort of back the way we came through reception and P the tent field and there’s a path

There which will be on our right hand side as we walk out and we’re going to head down there down to the Country Park so I’ll show you that bit next so right let’s Trot on in the mle so just so you don’t miss the path um basically again that’s the reception

Area just there so that was the road that we drove in on and where you want to walk or cycle to the Country Park is down down here you can see they’ve got no entry signs but you find to walk and cycle we’re heading straight down here

Can actually just see the water down there I don’t know if you able to see it on the camera um so literally this is where we’re going to head down this path now this path I wouldn’t overly describe it as accessible when we were here we

Did see someone pushing like a pram up it didn’t we yeah and pretty steep it’s quite steep even on the ebikes this is quite a steep hill if you don’t want take this route you can head back out to the road and go around there or you can

Drive down there’s loads of parking down there so if you’ve got your car or you just want to pack up your motor home and drive down you can go down and park there so I got to say my ebike was on full power lowest gear and I still you

Were blowing still struggled a little bit yeah I was like a little I was like a whip it I was like flying a good oh yeah so but yeah so this is quite steep now you can walk your dog down here we not doing it any justice in this day

Of the the the nicest of day true your true Yorkshire weather has let us down consider amount of color grading is going to make this look really pretty it’s gray and miserable and it’s March it’s a shame it’s not better weather but yeah so here we go now there’s different

Ways you can get through there’s like a little wooden sort of step over there you’ve then got this this gate and then this gate here is locked so this is what I mean as well about your first sort of accessible point if you’re on a Mobility Scooter um unless I have missed

Something that both times I’ve been you’re not going to get through there then I think there’s there’s like a is that like the uh mountain bike oh yeah so yeah here if you want to go diggers downhill can’t be a bit of downhill digging um you can go on the M mountain

Bike track and that just takes you off around there we this tail is for advanced riders only yeah we we didn’t try that I don’t think it’ll be that difficult maybe we’ll do it next time we’re not getting the bikes out today um but yeah so there’s a little mountain

Bike trail as well and then this is literally the path that takes you down to the Country Park it doesn’t get any better underfoot it’s literally like sort of cinders there and uh Stony gravel here um so what I’ll do is I won’t bore you with the full ins and

Outs of us getting down there it’s probably going to take do you think it’s about 10 minutes I I don’t know we were on a bike last time it’s about 3 minutes on a bike depending on how quick you go but on foot I reckon this could be 10 minutes

And don’t forget what goes down must come back up so you going have to walk back up here and there’s another little thing here look um a little Trail uh Buzzard wood there on the right hand side you’d have to lift him out and buy candle bars over that Gap though so yeah

Another little Trail there so there’s plenty of um if you like biking there’s loads of trails okay I’m going to shuffle on down this hill and we’ll see you at the bottom I’ve made it to the bottom of the path there’s the gate that I popped out

Of somewhere here behind me and this is where you’re going to end up now this road here running along here is where you come in if you come in from the main road and where we’re going to walk is literally just over there and then over

The road there and that’s going to take us into the country Park which is literally straight opposite now and over here um at the Country Park in nice weather they’ve got like water sport stuff you can do and it looks almost like there were like slides and things

On the water that you can take part in so there’s stuff to do there you can walk around it and there’s also um a cafe as well um I haven’t tried it so I don’t know if it’s any good but that’s what there is down here and then as I

Say you can cycle so what I’ll do is I will continue on my little walk I’m not going on the path cuz there’s a massive puddle just there I don’t fancy that today I’ve not got my frog Wellies on so I’ll carry on and then we’ll Venture um

Onto the path that leads around the water right onwards well that was ready it says main car park that way it says water sports I’m going Cafe let’s go and try the cafe out see what’s going on down there and here we are at the water’s

Edge now we came in and turned right into the car park so there’s some car parking here I think you do have to pay in display there is um information on how to do that there is the cafe over there and if you are in a motor home

There are places to put your um overhang we are as to say at the water’s edge so the track goes all the way around the country park there various birds and sarking things but the track here you can see here and it literally goes all the way around the edge I’m not

Sure if alt together it does say you can do a 5 kmet run so whether it’s about 3 miles all the way around I don’t know cuzz we were on the bikes last time now how long do you Reon take you walk around here I bet it could be an hour’s

Walk if you could be an hour’s walk what I’m going to do is I’m going to head off now over into that direction because that is where some of the water sports were and where to find the bike trail so I’m just going to venture that way um

And hopefully show you where to take up um Route Six the trans penine way right let’s just Venture off and have a a closer look and see what we can find so as we’ve just been wandering around we’ve um discovered they’ve got bike hire here as well that’s sort of just to

The left of where the cafe and bits are so you can um hire a bike if you wanting to come and then do part of the cycle route so the cycle route you can either head in the direction of rotheram or Chesterfield when we came we headed off

We got down to the water and we headed off to the left down this direction and there’s a sort of a Tarmac track that takes you around the water’s edge and over there um we went under a bridge and that was um that took us in onto the

Trans penine way I guess it must have been it was strands number six and we cycled on there all the way and um to Chesterfield you end up on the canal and on the canal is’s a really nice cafe I can’t remember what it was called but it

Was a really good little pit stop so that’s that’s a good route to take this is the road I was talking about here so this is the rest of it so what I’ll do I’ll just Trot up here and I’ll show you um the park from just up there so I’ll

Shoot up there and um well I’ll see you up there in a minute so I’ve made my way along this road a little bit further it’s amazing how much ground you cover on a bike compared to on foot seems a lot further today so this if you carry on on this

Track it does take you all the way around there and it was over I think almost opposite where I am now is the track I took um up onto the bike route the bike route is in those trees and we headed off left that way towards Chesterfield you can go right towards

Rotheram you can obviously just cycle around the water if you want but this gives you an idea of the water from this side but this park is absolutely fantastic in good weather you can bring a picnic um you can come with your dog uh whatever it might be and as I say you

Can park down here plenty of space for parking your motor home um it is just a nice day out I mean even today don’t get me wrong we’re not talking the best weather in the world are we but it’s nice to come and get some fresh air and

It’s really quiet on a day like this so it’s just one of those activities is that gets you out and about right I’m going to find Jules I left him a bit further up the road cuz I tend to walk fast Jules doesn’t like it so I’m going

To go and uh find him again and then we’re going to walk back up that hill and head back up to the Caravan site and what we might do is we might dive in and just get some breakfast in there but we’ll see how we feel when we get there

So right I am going to stomp my way back team up with Js and tackle that hill so I think I’ll see you back at the top of that Hill I might be blowing I’m quite fit actually believe it or not I go to the gym and do cycle classes nearly every

Day um but it it’s still quite a steep hill so let’s get to it right I’ll catch you in a little bit right well that Hill wasn’t as bad as I thought to be fair it must be in better shape than I I realized so yeah

We’ve made it up why while I left Jules unattended I’m not Jules is blowing but while I left him unattended he ventured into the cafe down at the uh Country Park and got himself a takeaway York sh tea and it was only2 which that’s not

Bad value for a cafe takeaway is it if I had lost you then I’d have ended up with a bacon buty I went back to find him and he’d gone so I rang him and said where are you he’s like I’m in the cafe so I

Should have known if in doubt food or beer yeah well food but yeah so there we we go right we made it back to the pitch um that is our Vlog of waleswood um at R Valley Country Park this site is really nice the pitches are really good size

Most of them are fully serviced really well priced it’s got a nice feel to it it’s very quiet and tranquil it’s got a coffee shop on site it’s got the facility blocks so yeah one to put on your list if you are in the South Yorkshire area um I think that’s about

It so we’re going to carry on with our trip and and have a quiet a quiet couple of days to ourselves doing what we’re doing um hopefully you enjoyed the hello fresh bit there will be a link down there again for that offer I enjoyed it I I’ve quite taken to this cooking

Business to be honest I’m doing what am I doing tonight chick cajun chicken burgers cajun chicken burgers tonight with chips so there we go thank you to carot homes as always and obviously thank you uh to you guys for watching our next trip we’re heading to I think I

Think we’re heading to delir Forest next um why you’re looking at me I haven’t got a clue delir Forest I think so stand by for that one right so as always thanks for watching and we’ll see you in the next one

  1. RVCP is great. come here cycling with a friend every so often.
I always forget that theres a camp site here. Its really local to me which is good but like a friend said, is it really a trip away if its in the same town ?

I use hello fresh, but the last few deloveries I've lost the love for it. its very generic. its aleays green beans, always rice etc. It no longer fits my diet.
they were ramming it down peoples throats at the NEC.

  2. Hi Karina x

Went to Waleswood April 22 on pitch 3.

Great place and Rother Valley excellent for outdoorsy people and dogs etc .

If you like big pitches check out Lickpenny in Matlock Derbyshire- huge deluxe pitches , lot to see in Matlock , Bakewell etc and first class fish n chips at Matlock Bath ( seaside resort without the sea !).

Good to see you both out n about again

  4. Wow you have changed Karina you are cooking this is fantastic, enjoyed this blog as always giving us plenty of ideas for a new adventure, stay safe and enjoy.

  5. If you go to the watersports car park there is a really good cafe and BAR!! Jools missed out by turning right not left. If you go back in the future I can recommend the water sports side and on certain weekends they have Newfoundland dogs practicing rescues.
