After much deliberation, I sprang for the Endurace CFR, Shimano Dura Ace version (wanted SRAM but it was more expensive). The bike is really pretty, and it is a joy to ride. Unfortunately, the power meter is a lemon, and Canyon’s only recommendation is to just return the whole bike, which is disappointing.
The meter has shown signs of life but never really functioned properly. I spent hours trying to make it work without luck, and I’ve shown it to two mechanics who also weren’t able to make it work.
Initially, Canyon encouraged me to reach out to 4iiii to begin a warranty claim. I told Canyon I was fairly certain my power meter wasn’t 4iiii. After some back and forth with 4iiii, Canyon realized my power meter is not 4iiii, and they redirected me to a Shimano licensed dealer instead. The Shimano mechanic confirmed that my power meter is officially dead, and is telling me that the warranty review/replacement process generally takes ~4 weeks. He mentioned if I’d have purchased the bike from the shop, they would just install a replacement right away.
Anyways, I asked Canyon for their help, perhaps by sending me a new crank or even letting me return the power meter for a replacement or even a regular crank, but the only option they offer is a return of the entire bike for a full refund.
What should I do? Do I return the whole bike which I otherwise love (in the process eating the $250 I spent to get fitted, which Canyon has confirmed they won’t reimburse)? Do I begin the 4-week long (maybe more?) warranty claim period with Shimano, tell Canyon thanks for the lemon, and just wait?

Return the bike and order the same one. I had a return to canyon due to sizing and the process was pretty easy.
Return the bike, and ask for a discount towards future purchase. If you paid full MSRP for your Endurace CFR, the discount may compensate some of your monetary loss.
