Playing around with a new build. I’ve got a 1 inch carbon fork.
I have found it difficult to find stems so I’ve got a 1” – 1 1/8” shim to open up my options.
I’ve got 1 inch spacers but is that going to be an issue with the stem and compression?
Also, does it look fuggen weird?

I think the biggest issue with a carbon fork is what kind of steering tube does it have. If alloy, then this should be fine. If a carbon steering tube, then the internal compression device needs to be correct. In this older bike, it’s probably an alloy tube.
1″ spacers are correct when using a shim.
The looks problem is hard to solve and for the most part it’s just the nature of 1″ stem shims. Some stems are bulkier than others, but it’s not going to be perfect. If you wanted to go all-out on a classic bike and get the looks dialed, you can just have a framebuilder make you a 1″ stem. Even then you have to deal with either the unorthodox look of it being 25.4 on one end and 31.8 on the other, or deal with getting 25.4 or 26.0 bars, but to that end you still have at least some good options in Nitto, RH, etc. If you want to use everyday parts, what you’ve got going is pretty much how it always looks.
I ran mine with 1” spacers, but they lined up beautifully with my stem (ritchey classic) almost looked like a quill stem
Its tough finding a modern stem that looks correct on bikes with 1″ steerer like this. Finding one with a narrow neck is your best bet, kinda rare but they are out there.
