That was fun! I had a very different plan in mind (ride around Tasmania), but decided last minute to visit friends in Brisbane and plan my trip around that. So I set off on a rental bike from Byron Bay and did an inland loop through NSW and Queensland.

I certainly do not recommend to anyone sane riding through Ipswich but the rest of the route was pretty amazing. Lesson learnt for the next time – plan even more gravel and avoid paved roads as much as possible. I loved how much the landscape was changing as I was going into the Granite Belt, the Girraween National Park was definitely a big highlight.

As I came straight off the winter in Europe, heat adaptation was a bit of an issue – especially on a 200km+ second day. I learnt my lesson and tried to tackle shorter distances on the days that followed.
