Hello! My experience working on bikes is super limited, but I got some brake levers and they have an extra little piece I’m not super sure the purpose of. It’s a little wire kind of paralleling the clamp portion.
At first I thought it may be a spring of some sort, but I couldn’t get it in a position that did anything effective to the lever. Some insight would be wonderful, thanks in advance!

That may be a bail sort of thing to hold a old school large ferrule against the lever so the cable doesn’t fall up the slot and out of the lever.
