I’ve finally had enough of these tire failures. I’ve gone through seemingly three of these Hutchinson Griffus tires on the rear wheel for the same reason; every failure has been the sidewall pulling away from the bead I’m guessing during a loaded up corner. I will admit I like to shralp/roost corners but not excessively.

Front tire has always tracked great and is very durable against sidewall slashes and punctures, great tire all around. The junction between the bead and beginning of the casing/sidewall is just too weak for me I guess. I only weigh about 170lbs with riding gear. Unfortunately Hutchinson’s more durable casings don’t come in tanwall (I know boohoo but I like the vibe).

If anyone can recommend some other alternatives that stand up to thrashing I’d love to hear your recommendations. From what I can find its a somewhat common failure point for skinwall tires and it sounds like inherently they are just not as durable 1 for 1, but I definitely think I can find something that wont pull away from the bead. Also to make things more difficult the darker the tanwall the better (why I went with Hutchinson to begin with), cheers!

Here’s an article that covers Hutchinson tires and many more brands. The writer claims Hutchinson’s Hardskin (1 x 66tpi) would be comparable to Maxxis EXO. My tires are the Hardskin (1x 66tpi).
