Yes you should replace it.

That helmet is gone

The way helmets work is that the foam breaks and compresses to reduce impact on your brain. Once the foam becomes damaged in any it’s ability to prevent concussion has been reduced.
A cautious person would replace that helmet.

Is this the Abus Urban helmet?

It’ll be fine until you can afford to replace it but do replace it.

It’s toast. You can see small little cracks in the foam (the tiny holes).
Get a new lid ASAP.

This is just plastic cover being bruised not the foam itself … but do change on proper occasion.

It’s garbage now.

New helmet time

Yes. A very good helmet is $100, not worth risking your health for that amount.

Brain damage is infinitely more expensive than a $100 helmet.

Yup, she’s done.

Weird, I banged into a low hanging branch from a tree that was hanging across the trail and my helmet doesn’t even have a tiny scratch. I wonder if OP’s helmet is hollow under the plastic because those a hefty dents from falling on the road without a head inside.
I would also replace it because it doesn’t look good even if it might be still safe.

100% replace. If your head was in it for that fall it wouldn’t have been worthy of a post.
REI member sale coming up which is what I normally use to get a new helmet every few years.

Sorry for your loss.
I’d call the MFG and see if they’ll replace it. Many good companies will, even though it’s not warranty, but just good customer service.
The picture says “replace me”, but if you had just told that story without a photo, I’d assume your helmet would be fine. Oddly intense damage for a super light item falling at relatively low speed

Replace the helmet for sure. If you’re getting the same model you should keep the pads from the old one, always good to have spare pads.
Dispose of the old helmet. The amount of cheap helmets I see on marketplace with “slightly dented” or “lightly scratched” in the add. Bin them people.

Depending on the manufacturer, you might be able to get a crash replacement

Now it goes in the bin or hung from the wall as a decorative piece of art!

Maybe just message the company, “yo my dumbass left my helmet on the roof of my car and drove off, is there any sort of dumbass customer discount on a new helmet?” Or “…do yall have any upcoming sales I can keep an eye out for?” The worst thing that could happen is a “no”
