I’m curious if anyone else is having issues with SRAM XX1 cassette finish wearing off quickly? The Bronze cassette has 300 miles on it (admittedly all gravel) with chain, bike & cassette all cleaned meticulously in between rides. Had the matching SRAM Eagle XX1 bronze chain on it.

When I saw the finish wearing off, I bought a new XX1 gold cassette & chain, and within 50 miles it’s showing the same wear starting.

Am I unreasonable to think that $800 in cassettes shouldn’t look like that, this fast? Do your XX1 cassettes also wear the finish this bad?

  1. It’s a surface finish, it’s gonna wear off as it’s used. This is part of what I hate about these fancy finishes, you’re just paying for the aesthetics of it.

Guy claims to have 10k on one of these and it doesn’t look as bad as mine with 50 miles on it.

I’m actually about to pull everything off and check RD alignment. The fact that wear is mainly only showing on 4-5-6th cogs makes me wonder if there’s an alignment issue here. I’ll report back soon.
