The main reasons I don’t think my Diamondback would work is because it’s aluminum and it doesn’t have much in the way cargo mounting options. I found these bikes in my area that look better equipped for touring as well a few 90s MTBs for cheaper that I could potentially convert. Opinions?

Put a Topeak rack on the back, buy a set of Ortlieb panniers, pump up the tires & ur good to go. Aluminium is a fine bike frame material ( otherwise Cannondale, Trek & Specialized got it wrong). The Diamondback looks like it has the right gearing & looks like it has holes for rear rack….unless u want to buy a new bike?
Ride what you have until it breaks, then use the knowledge you’ve gained on your next bike. The DB looks like it’ll be fine, decent gearing. Upgrade your touch points if you feel the need to spend some cash on comfort, throw a rack on and pack as light as possible. You’ll be able to make a better informed decision on what works for YOU with a few tours on your current bike.
