Hi all
So I’ve been dreaming of doing this for a bit.
Generally about me: I do a fair bit of rod cycling, my longest ride ever was 112 miles on Oahu, Hawaii (so some hills and a few really steep ones). On the regular I ride about 20-30 miles nonstop. I also hike quite a bit as well as water stuff.
Im going to Reno NV for work. I’ve got a couple extra days and here’s my plan:
Saturday am I’m taking an Amtrak to Truckee. I’m thinking I will ride about 40ish miles this day, camping at Sierra Springs. I haven’t booked a site there yet, doing a little research to make sure it’s not too full of freaky weirdos (weirder than me).
The next day (Sunday) I’ll bike back Arline around to Logger Campground (I have a site reserved).
Monday I will bike back into Truckee and return my rental bike.
After talking with Dirt Gypsies, I’m going with a gravel bike.
I plan on carrying:
Tent, sleeping pad, camp pillow, sleeping bag, water, water filter, snacks/lunch, 1 change of clothes, knife, compass, small 1st aid and bike repair kits. I might add my camp stove, aeropress and a small pot to make ramen or something. I also have a dry bag and some extra paracord if I need to make a bear bag.
Navigation wise the route seems pretty simple, I’ll probably print a map and take bearings throughout the day. Alternatively I have a small gps in addition to my phone.
Any thoughts to help a noob?
