I have 3 speeds in the front and on the smallest one it does that, it starts from the 3rd rear smallest to the smallest cog.

Chain is probably too long, but could also be caused be a rear mech not having the required chain wrap capacity. What does it look like when using the big chainring and big cassette sprocket?
