  1. Hi Bikewrenchers,

I’m thinking about swapping the fork on my bike and just wondered how much of a job it would be for me (a bit of a novice when it comes to these things).

I know it’s shallow but I want to find a fork that matches the rest of the frame colourwise and I have some idea of the specifications I’d require for a new one, i.e: takes a flat mount disc brake, needs a 12mm thru axle, needs to fit a 1.125-1.5″ tapered steerer.

I think I can disassemble the headset easy enough and remove the old fork safely. As for the cables, I think I’d be able to disconnect the hydraulic brake using the Jagwire junction so theoretically it should make things a bit easier, right?

Does anybody have any recommendations for new forks? Are there any potential compatibility issues I should be aware of? Is this the kind of thing I shouldn’t even be attempting?

If it’s just colour, get it sand blasted and resprayed. It’s a pretty good fork as is and a replacement could cost more than just re painting it

If you were replacing it to go with carbon, or a wider one to fit wider tires, then that might make sense. But it’s a 531 fork and presumably high quality, and replacing it just for aesthetic reasons just seems wrong. Just remove and repaint it as others have suggested. It’s a keeper.

And removing and reinstalling it is basically like installing a new fork, except with a new one you have to cut it and install a crown race, which is pretty easy (although being integrated perhaps even that’s not necessary). Keeping this saves you all that effort and cost.

Is that original to the bike? Why on earth would you change it? Why even contemplate this?

I guess it’s not OE. You could paint it with a rattlecan. I’ve done some really nice paint jobs that way.

  5. I know it’s not helpful, but I’m really digging this color combo. Can you tell me the make/model of this bike?

For what it’s worth that looks like an awesome fork and I think the color accents the other colors nicely
