Somebody asked me about how to use your Ortlieb bag on the Brompton. This isn’t my idea or novel, but is I think it is nearly perfect solution for those who already have nice pannier bags and want to use on your Brompton.
Photo is a Ortlieb Back-Roller Classic with QL2.1 rails and top hooks. I already had the top rail and hooks when I bought the bag. When I decided to mount on Brompton I purchased a second rail and mounted it lower. The hooks are very easily moved to the lower or upper rail. I didn’t buy a second set of hooks, but you could if you want to quickly switch between different bikes. Because the titanium front rack is not as high as the stock rail, the lower rail is necessary.
The rack is titanium and in the $60ish range and from Amazon or the Chinese Amazon-equivalent website. I have other bags I sometimes bungee cord to the front rack as well. It can be used many ways.
FYI I found shipping from Ortlieb website is $10 for shipping a $15 rail so you might want to support your LBS for this item.
When you measure where to put the second rail, set the bag on the rack and use a Sharpie to make marks on the bag through the mounting holes.
