

Trying to put build up this Batavus Sprint for my girlfriend, just for some light commuting. I bought another bike yesterday that I took the wheels off of and put them on the Batavus (which I think looks really cool), but the brake calipers originally on this Batavus dont reach the rims now. I thought I might be able to use these clamps and be able to use a U brake, but I’m scared they’re going to rip right off when braking a bit harder. Could I use these or should I look for larger wheels?

That frame most likly had 27inch wheels, id suggest using them or a 700 wheelset. There looks to be very little clearance with that 26 wheelset and tires and that frame.
Those adapters “should” work.
I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in those adaptors. That frame takes 700c or 27 inch wheels, that’s the fix.
Brake adapters are always a bad idea. Do not attempt to bodge the only piece of safety equipment on your bike.
Maybe the clamps will rip off, or maybe the fork legs will fold right there. Either way seems like a good way to lose teeth. Get the right size wheels and caliper brakes to suit.

Edit: thank you all for answering my question 🙂 I will go looking for wheels that fit this bike, and the original wheel broke.
Go back to bigger wheels and get some wide tires that will fit. Calipers are fine.

In addition to what’s already been said, those clamp-on adapters are shown on a fork with round tubing. Using them on ovalized fork tubing would make them even less secure!
Though you’ve gotten the right answer for this bike, a side point for the curious: those kinds of clamp-on brake posts can be acceptable for unbent sections of round fork legs in exactly the diameter they’re made for. Even there it’s a compromised design because braking will put force twisting force on the clamps, so it’s a situation where you want to use a lot of good prep and test the results thoroughly.
You’re never gonna find the right adapters for that old fork and the fork has not been designed to take stress in that area. The only way your getting out of that one is by getting bigger wheels.
