It’s been a little while since I posted. I have a couple saved up with pictures.

    Farewell to New Orleans

As I pedal away from the vibrant heart of New Orleans, I carry with me the memories of a city that captivates the soul. From the enchanting live oaks to the harmonious blend of cultures, New Orleans is a city that feels like a world unto itself.

The architecture whispers stories of history and resilience, while the food sings a melody of flavors that I’ve never known before. A week in this city felt like a mere glimpse through an kaleidoscope of experiences, yet even this fleeting encounter was enough to plant the seeds of longing in my heart. Leaving was a bittersweet triumph; New Orleans has a way of inviting you to stay, to become part of its ongoing narrative, and it takes strength to say goodbye to such a siren call.

Five days out, the road stretches before me, leading towards Texas and the vast expanse of the West. The air grows warmer with each passing mile, a stark reminder that the desert does not forgive easily. I’ve braved the Canadian winters, where the cold is a familiar companion, but the heat of the desert is an uncharted territory that I must now navigate.

As the temperatures climb, I find myself concerned for my traveling partner, Mikoto. She, like me, has never faced the relentless sun of these arid landscapes. I ponder on the design of a makeshift shelter that could attach to the back of the trailer, a haven of shade to protect her during our rests. It’s a puzzle I’m determined to solve, for her comfort is as crucial as my own.

In this heat, our strategy is simple: water, shade, and rest. These are the luxuries we afford ourselves generously. Mikoto’s well-being is paramount, and I am vigilant for signs of her discomfort. Our journey is measured not by the distance we cover each day, but by the care we take in traversing these harsh conditions. The Lonely Road continues to be a teacher of many lessons, and this chapter of our story is about respect—respect for the elements, for our limits, and for the need to adapt. I am reminded that every environment has its own rhythm, and to thrive, one must learn to move in harmony with it.

This leg of the journey, is where the sun reigns supreme, and the shade becomes our sanctuary. It’s a testament to the ever-changing landscape of life on The Lonely Road, where every turn brings a new horizon to explore.
