So the problem: wont shift into smallest cog. Barrel adjuster doesn’t thighten just keeps turning in place. The adjuster was only a milimeter or so threaded in. I guess the threads are stripped inside the real mech. Any ways to save this? Read screwing in a M5 or so screw could rethread the hole. I got a adjuster (guess inline) by the brifters but it doesn’t so jack shit…

Jerk your pp a little bit
Try running an M5 screw in from the opposite side. That should straighten out what threads are left. Then screw the barrel adjuster in all the way and start the adjustment process over.
This is a simple fix. Go to your lbs. they will be able to tap it for you. As long as it is not too damaged. You will be supporting a local specialty business.
Looks like you took the cable out. Chain should have shifted into the smallest cog. If not your limit screw is the problem.
Dude just get a cheap new one.
Chase the hole with a tap or a M5/M6(?) screw. Then put the barrel adjuster in all the way. If it’s stripped, no biggie. As long as it’s not going anywhere that end of business will be fine.
Then adjust cable tension at the shifter and/or at the pinch bolt on the der.
If the chain isn’t going down to small cog it may just be a matter of limit screw adjustment. If it was working before your der might be bent inward a bit. Get that straight first.
Metric taps, don’t let that bike defeat you.
