As the title states, first time bike buyer. Looking to use for just riding around with my girlfriend, nothing serious. Mostly on streets and the occasional gravel trail. Is this a good bike for $150? He seems to be open to offers so I can always see about getting a deal. He said only minor cosmetic paint imperfections and rides well other than that.
Anything I should look out for? I’m not dead set on this bike and l have a budget of $250 if I see another pop up that is better suited for me.
Also, any upgrades that I can do to the bike that will make a world of difference for relatively cheap and inexperienced?

Basic hybrid bike, lowest end of treks range in the late 2000s. If the seller is correct about condition I’d do it for $150. Kool Stop salmon brake pads and good tires would be good cheap upgrades here, otherwise get the derailleurs dialed in and it will serve you well.
