Stand so I’m learning to hold a mic if I mess up please excuse me uh thank you DC and all protocol observed I this is home for me um very precious memories in this Chapel I remember I I I wish I don’t remember all things to spend my time so that I can
Avoid preaching but uh I do remember um Gloria Doug trying to make me a musician to sing she didn’t succeed very well because she wanted me to sing in the college choir and memorize the song and one of the chapel we would come and write all the songs write them down
And I couldn’t figure out what the songs we were singing for the graduation she wasn’t happy with me and she made me repeat several times to rewrite the songs uh I think she showed mercy on me and she excused me I didn’t have to remember and write all the songs you
Were singing for graduation but more memorable is U what our principal did in one of those chapels uh Madame an invited for as an American preacher and uh the preacher came and said he has three points to for his sermon he said one is to show us how we can heal
People second point was how know he would teach us how to give because Kenyans don’t know how to give only Americans know how to give and the third point was he will talk to us about their Ministry because their Ministry is converting so so many people in the
World and he particularly said even more than Billy Graham was doing so he he he began on point one and said I’ll teach you how to give and he didn’t know that we had just has taken an offering uh in my recollection he came late and he did
Know we had already taken an offering so he said uh given it shall be given and he cited a few verses and he said somebody give me a basket and please all line up here and give and we looked at him like this we couldn’t believe what he’s
Doing some student were persuaded to line up in the aisle and some of us sat and then he bullied us he said why are you still seated there is it that you have no money stand up and line up here if you don’t have money I’ll give
You money to give to God so we know some came giving and giving and then our principal is seated at the back way at the back and what these gentleman did if you didn’t have money and you wanted to give to God he took 1,000 Shillings from his
Pocket and gave it to you to give into the offering basket and after you passed he took the a th000 Shillings out of the basket and gave to another student who had no money to give for the offering and hilderbrand our principal at the way back he said excuse me
Please we do not give what you give us we give what God gives us please go to your second point and if you don’t have anything to give this chap please sit down I can’t I can never forget that and after that after chap was dismissed we
Went to our classes we didn’t we didn’t continue with our lectures we just discussed that I mean discuss the American and discussed our principal did he do right if you are the principal what would you have done and if you a pastor what would you have done that is so
Memorable for me but that’s not why I came I came because I was invited and somebody followed me up Reverend Obed followed me up and said please come over and speak to us I said ah I will just because I’m an aluminas as well speaking to a large congregation a man
By the name Steve Alford say that he someon is about Paul’s three girlfriends and and he said I’m going to speak about mercy and I’m going to speak about peace and I’m going to speak about Grace and I thought to myself if I were to make a someon like
That I would also add Faith because those were Paul’s for girlfriends I don’t want to speak about girlfriends you know it’s not healthy in a chapel like this it’s not very holy may I speak all right okay let’s go to First Timothy chapter 6 now let’s be serious
Let’s be in church all right let’s go to church now 1 Timothy chapter 6 and I’ll read verse 11 um uh maybe I could go up to 17 but thou oh man of God flee these things and follow after righteousness godliness Faith love patience and meekness five
The good fight of Faith lay hold of eternal life whereon are thou also called and has professed a good profession before many witnesses 13 I give thee these charges in the sight of God who quickens all things before Christ Jesus who before pontious Pilate witnessed a good
Profession let me stop there you could go on later on and finish up that reading I want to speak about the man of God that Paul is talking to Timothy about in verse 11 but you men of God the older translation would use the poetical apostrophe and say but thou oh man of
God flee these things follow these things and fight the fight of Faith three things and like Steve Alford I want to speak about the three FS fight okay flee follow and fight Paul Begins by calling Timothy a man of God and he says oh men of God um students of language will know
It’s that letter isn’t wasting space it has emphasis and Paul uses it to address Timothy and he says but thou oh men of God in second Timothy Paul calls Timothy an evangelist and tells him to do the work of an evangelist here in first Timothy he calls him a man of
God ah inclusive language please allow me to use the word man of God for this Chapel but I see so many ladies are asking what what about us every time I say man of God please if you are a lady woman H sandwi it there
And say woman of God so let’s talk about the mogs right now it’s important to God that we be his people before we serve him he says you are a man of God before before you become an evangelist before you become a pastor before you become a bishop and
Today we have all the titles o bet tried to use all my titles I wish you didn’t they not important anymore if if I were to be anything I would be a person that would call my man God said about David he is my man he
Pursues my heart he’s a God Chaser he’s a God man he’s a devout man and Paul is telling his pugy please Timothy he is by now not a young man he’s an old man now seasoned in Ministry you know Timothy 1 and Timothy 2 is not just written to a
Young boy anymore he’s a man in Ministry and he says please as a man of God you do these things do you know Jesus as your personal savior would he call you his man do you have a a a vital growing relationship is Jesus your lord would God call you my
Son before before we can be anything in the Kingdom before we can occupy any office or any Ministry he wishes that we can be his he wishes that he can relate with us not as ministers and pastors and Bishops he wishes he can relate with us as his sons we know
Him we can occupy in office and have lost our relationship with him to Paul it was important that Timothy learns to maintain an ongoing growing thriving relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ and therefore he calls him man of God please note that that sentence also begins with the word but but would be
Contrasting he says but you man of God why but it’s because from verse three to verse 10 Paul is talking about other men other preachers and those preachers are described in many words we don’t I don’t I don’t have time to discuss all of them but he discusses people who are no
Longer teaching sound Doctrine he discusses those preachers who are pursuing money in Ministry he’s talking about those preachers who are not pursuing Christian morals they’re not committed to Christian ethics he’s talking about them he has many words to describe them them versus Timothy and that’s why he says but you why but
Because they are doing these things please go over those verses in your own good time and discover that there are people who are in Ministry and in church today and are no longer teaching sound Doctrine they are no longer pursuing Christ they are no longer after knowing him and making him
Known and and and paes that is them I want you all men of God so he says but and that’s why he says as a man of God known by God Loved by God having a relationship with your savior I want you to do this things I want you to flee these
Things please discover for yourself these things are described in verse 3 to verse 11 people that are con conceited people who are no longer following Christ people who are no longer holy they are no longer humble people they are no longer you know righteous people
He says uh-uh you men of God woo are there men of God in the house today woo yeah we all here Others May do it but not you that’s what point telling Timothy we can allow them to go on and on with their Lifestyles we can wink at that but not
You oh woman of God not you oh man of God you we we will not allow you and and and that’s what pursuing God and Christian morals and Christian ethics and being committed to the Savior that alone will not allow you to do what the world is
Doing what the Bible says do not be conformed they can conform but not you Timothy my son not you men of God you cannot if you would consider yourself a child of God washed in the blood of the Lamb walking in righteousness and pursuing the kingdom values you cannot do these
Things simple as that and so he says flee these things let them not be mentioned in your life and in your ministry you know aew toza says that Christianity is exclusive excludes all those things that do not that Christ will not allow Christianity is exclusive it says you cannot touch you
Cannot do this that’s what our faith is about and says if you’re are going to walk the way of the Cross flee these things and I’m here to say to us flee these things many years ago when John Wesley joined uh Oxford University and later on his brother
Charles joined him John went to his brother Charles and told him Charles in this University it’s not the place to hold Christ with one hand and the world with another you have to drop the world and embrace Christ with both hands you hear me Charles that’s what John told his
Brother flee Christianity is exclusive you cannot hold the world with one hand and hold Christ with the other hand you can’t man of God you cannot no you cannot walk the narrow way and both at the same time the the Broadway you can’t free these things and then he
Says follow these things and he enumerates the things we’re going to follow he says follow after righteousness follow after faith f follow after weekness there is something that we are called to pursue you wake up to pursue something you wake up to follow something The Horizon is calling on us that we may
Follow after meekness after righteousness after Faith after humility there is something that godliness persuades us beckons on us and says please follow these things if you are persuaded enough to flee these things you should be the more persuaded enough to follow after righteousness because a
Man of God a woman of God it’s a righteous woman it’s a righteous man it’s a holy man it’s a humbl man please if you’re going to keep that status on your Facebook all on your page man of God follow these things praise the name of the Lord and then finally he says
Fight the good fight of Faith before I continue on that I want to remind us that those three words are verbs they are action words those are things you do our faith is an action faith we do something about our faith you wake up to
Do something you wake up to go for Bible study or go for a devotion or go for a prayer meeting or to a fellowship our faith is an action Faith the decision that you made many years ago to be a follower of Jesus it is settled in those many years ago but
That same decision is made every day when you wake up you have to make that same decision to follow Jesus on Tuesday and this evening you’ll be faced by the same decision are you going to follow Jesus in this activity are you going to follow Jesus this weekend that Des
Decision you made maybe in a high school or at home in a little church that same decision you make it every day as you walk in the corridors of this University our faith is an action Faith you just can’t settle it in history a fact of
History that is lived every day that is our faith and therefore Paul says son Timothy I want you to fight the fight of of faith I want you to be able to express your faith I want you to be able to show it by your words and by your Deeds I
Want you to say it to somebody else I want to be I want you to demonstrate your faith as you live every day may you be a soldier of Jesus Christ may you be a defender of Kingdom values may you be a defender of our Heavenly home he says
Follow fight you know what my brothers and my sisters Jesus calls every one of us to consciously and deliberately to be intentional about practicing their faith and say this I will not allow in my faith Others May but I will not there are things you have to flee every day of your
Life and there are things that you’re going to pursue every day of your life maturity in Christ is something you labor you work you you you do something about to grow up in Christ how do you get rooted by just sitting there by doing something open your Bible and read it
Go to a prayer meeting go to a Bible study group do something follow after these things and then you will mature in Christ and then that gives you the stamina the stamina gives you the the strength you’re able to defend your faith and you’re able to spread the
Light you don’t just keep the for you go out of the for and spread the gospel may the Lord help us to flee to fight and to follow him Heavenly Father we do thank you thank you so very much for your grace that enables us to maintain a
Relationship that we can pursue you in our lives that in the strength of the Holy Spirit we can stand up and say I am a Christian I’m saved I love Jesus I can fight the good fight of faith and I pray for the students here I pray for them
Lord that the holy spirit will take these words and imprint them in their hearts that in their pursuit of the kingdom of God there are things they will flee from they will there are things they will stop from and there are things they will need to do follow and
There is a fight that they will fight for and I pray for us that are in Ministry today that will be reminded there are there are Ministry issues that we need to flee from there are Ministry practices that are not honoring to your name and I pray
That you will help us to flee from them and follow after righteousness humility and faith and mercy that we can fight for the kingdom this I pray in Jesus name amen God bless thank you so [Applause] [Applause] much praise the Lord I didn’t know you’d have done this for
Me so that I don’t hold the mic all through this feels good praise the Lord are you blessed are you going to action the things you have learned okay so I would again invite our speaker up here and so that we can be able to share with him our appreciation
