I have a 2015 giant reign and I want to find an affordable way to convert my bike to a 1x drivetrain, while maintaining the general gear ratios for climbing. Can I just change my cassette, chain ring, and chain? Or will a new derailleur be necessary?

Seems the derailleur can handle up to 51T so you should be good to go.
Edit: I am wrong.
The cheapst set is M5100, shifter, derailleur, 11s chain and 51t cassette. And you can buy a 32 or 34t N-W chainring for BCD104 crankarm.
The ratio would be 0.62/0.67 to 2.9.
You can change to either 1×10 or 1×11.
For 1×10 you will need RD-M5120, 11-46 cassettes and 1x chainring, so you can reuse the chain, shifter and cranks.
If you want more range you can hop on to 1×11 with RD-M5100, 11-51 cassette, 11s shifter, 11s chain(although some 10s chains can work too) and 1x chainring.
I have 2 complete second-hand Deore 11s groupsets and they are really durable and reliable, so totally worth the money.
