Im November hatte ich die Ehre, beim Latosa Escrima Gathering in San Francisco zu unterrichten. Es war eine tolle Veranstaltung von GM Cedric Concon mit alten und neuen Schülern von SGM Rene Latosa. Sein Geist war jederzeit spürbar. Ich bin stolz, Teil der Worldwide Latosa Escrima Federation zu sein.

Our next guest uh presenter is going to be uh Stefan golden he’s coming from Germany ARL so we we start uh with a normal punch from the left side just a straight punch To The Head And I want to look uh for my defense or you know we don’t have

Defense movements there’s always attacking movements but sometimes I make a um the mistake to to say is a defense but you always have in mind it’s an attack okay so I’m standing here gives me the attack I try to control his attack now we are looking for what

Happens here now um if he’s a very strong guy and he gives me a push maybe I lose my balance because of his his power so okay now is maybe one way to say okay you have a lot of muscles so I go to the gym build up my muscles and

Then okay I try to build up my muscles to to fight against them but if I have not the possibility to build up my muscles so much because I’m a smaller person uh then I have problems against bigger persons and so that’s what I’m uh sometimes looking for how can I defend

Myself when I’m not such a big guy uh so one one idea is we we want to be relaxed and um but it’s a different kind of being relaxed it’s not uh not a fluffy way for for explaining this is if you give me a push to to my arm that’s

Just for explanation and you try to push me away and you feel now my resistance now your force can attack my force and I lose my balance because I’m fighting you uh but I never want to fight the other guy so we we do the same I try to fight

So that you feel the resistance but now something changed to keep the pressure to my center and maybe you feel in your body now something happens if you push more what happens to you now I’m tensed up yeah he T up now and you will look start to losing balance because now I

Give him a big resistance but without pushing against him so okay give me once once again the punch I’m here now I I defend the punch because the way to the head is uh closed so I’m uh defending it so when he tried to push me now I try to

Resist without pushing against him I can breathe out and be like this standing there because we need this for for the next movements afterwards so there are two common mistakes in this there’s too much power that I say okay I hit his arm away that’s really def defensive movement

What we don’t want to do uh because when you give me the punch my idea is going forward no so the arm movement is always going towards the opponent where the uh defend Ive part comes from is from the body so when we uh do the same a little bit slower so my

Arm goes directly to his head when I’m sinking down a little bit that’s where I um bring you down a little bit and when I turn I bring you out of the way so now your hand is over there I can go from

There to my next Target if I um so if I have too much force so we do it once again so I push you down for example now you can use this energy to give me a hook over there because I press you down

With my arm so and but when I push my arm forward and do the rest with the uh with the body so now you have any feelings that you can give me a hook I don’t think so because when he tried to move I’m already on the way to the front

The other problem is when I’m to use too much force I’m too stiff um so when you give me the attack I go what like this and you push against it I push here now give me the hook oh boom now I can hit it’s to late because I I’m

Too stiff I’m not able to oh before I hit I must lose my tension and then I can hit and it takes too much time so I need to to be relaxed but uh stable so if you give me a check now now I can work from here yeah um for

Example if you give me a hook stronger hook hit me okay hit me hit me as strong as you can I don’t want to do that there no need for need to be stiff okay I I need a kind of infastructure that’s that’s right uh

This is like a like a kind of forward pressure but when I start to to explain this then I need two hours or whatever so this is also come to maybe I show a little bit but uh and um it’s it’s not not a fluffy thing it looks like fluffy

But it’s but it isn’t you feel it you say boom or something happened there you you get hurt but not me so if I’m stiff too you stiff I’m stiff then boom I’m hting too um sometimes when I’m looking for the first attack and I defend well have a

Interrupted attack so maybe I put everything on this side because I think oh there’s a very strong attack coming in so everything is here now when he gives me attack with this hand and I can’t lose in this one here’s nothing because all my energy is on this side

And on this side I have nothing so but when I have this this inner state of mind and there’s power and energy everywhere so it’s like I’m here I’m here and there’s no no extra need to put some something extra on it because I’m already there okay um now we have uh this

Problem when we are in this position here is um I have only this short way how can I generate power in this short way it’s uh not so easy because I’m not allowed to pull back because when I pull back you can hit me so I must keep the

Control um so but I want also do the circles the figure eights into it but when I have Circle there’s a part which going backwards in in my circle and how I can uh provide myself going backwards have somebody any idea I do a circle without going backwards body go forwards huh yeah

Right now because when your body goes forward now this movement also go forwards it’s like when you have a bicycle and you put the light on the bicycle at the pedal of the bicycle and you see it by night there’s a circular movement but when you see the line of

The light there’s no no circling around like this like a spiral it’s going like whoop boop boop because when it’s go backwards the bicycle is moving forward so we can use this idea now when we uh do this part so he gives me the attack I’m here keep this way it doesn’t matter

So and now uh when when he starts to so guess there are two two options maybe he pull it back to hit with the other one boom then it’s okay but it doesn’t matter if you don’t pull it back I boom can do it anyway because this movement

Also bring him out of the uh out of the attacking zone so I bring him out and can hit so for me it doesn’t matter if you pull back or not so we don’t care that’s it’s always Grand Master care and that’s what I also do I don’t care about what he’s doing

I’m always looking what I’m doing um that’s the most important thing so it keeps you away from from uh reaching out for touching hands blocking sticks or whatever no I’m just standing there he gives me the attack then I can work from here and do my movements and if there are some control

In between yeah maybe maybe or maybe not so now I try to go forward afterwards here boom I’m here so there’s a little bit more of turning maybe raising up a little bit more and from here it’s like I like this movement but without boom pulling back but maybe there’s a
