@16:50 Those are not to slow down cyclists (unless you're going faster then 25 km/h), but to slow down 'motor' scooters.
Note that a raised part is not just to slow down. it indicates who had priority. So a road comming from the right has right of way, but if that road was raised it has to wait and give way
The zones around 13:00 I think are meant for pedestrians only and you are supposed to walk with the bike next to you.
Biking in between cities is even better. Just kilometers of bike paths

1:04 Even as a bicyclist you should have stopped for the pedestrian wearing the blue coat. In the Netherlands you are supposed to stop for anyone who has a clear intention to use the zebra-path. Pedestrians don't have to walk on the zebra-crossing to get the right of way, even walking towards it is enough.
4:29 It's a common misconception that bicyclists are always right when they get involved in an accident with a car. That's not true. If the bicyclist was acting dangerously and failed to obey traffic rules, they will face the consequences. And when the motorist can proof that they couldn't have done anything to prevent the accident from happening, the bicyclist will be held liable. Since more cars are equipped with dash cams, claims on force majeure or reckless driving on the part of the bicyclist will become more successful.

One might think that a typical car trip of any significant length would take much longer in the Netherlands. In my experience it does not, as only the first and last few kms are in shared spaces like this.

Ah, I finally found something, Germany may do more bike friendly: Here speed bumps often don't cover the full width, but allow cyclists to go around them 🙂

As a Dutchman I consider the cycle infrastructure as a standard part of the infrastructure. Therefore it's nice to see how it's appreciated by a foreign cyclist. However although the infrastructure for cyclists is pretty organized, there still are some improvements to be made. Especially at roundabouts cyclists don't always have the right of way and that is a bit confusing.
at 5:40 the car did not have to yield to you as you were both going in the same direction initially, you suddenly change direction, that won't give you the right of way
"rechtdoorgaand verkeer op dezelfde weg"
funny how you call it a closed bridge where every Dutchmen will tell you the bridge is open (and it's an often used excuse for being late 🙂 )
One of the main reasons the infrastructure is great for bicycles is to ensure the trip for the road user for short distances is easier and shorter in time than using a car.
I use to live there in Delft (near in de Hoven, in the beginning of your video) in the 70s and 80s. Back than when Bikes were concidered "slow traffic" and Cars fast traffic, so bikes always had to yield for cars. I now live in Germany (almost no bike infrastructure here) and visit Delft (and family) by car . In and around Delft i go by feet now. Glad to see the very much updated infra structure, more towards bikes and also the ban on cars in the city center. Also the bike lanes where cars are "visitors".. I had to look twice when I was with my car on such a lane 😉
1:08, officially you had to stop, and you had to leave the pedestrian crossing at the pedestrian crossing.

Fietsroute netwerk, means a network of bicycle routes connected by intersections that are numbered by these numbers in green circles, call, fietsknooppunten. Fietsknooppunten means bicycle nodes, but is better translated with bicycle route nodes. Usually they are indicated with these maps, and all the maps of the whole bicycle route network are offered at ANWB (national traffic society), both in their online store, and physical stores, in excellent quality. I met Germans who had German maps that also indicated the nodes. The German had critique, fietsknooppunten are not the best part of our infrastructure, it’s a bit of a puzzle, here and there.
To me that makes it even nicer, but Germans and Dutch differ a lot. But it works, and they indicate the most beautiful bike routes, so not all bike routes.
Hi, i’m Dutch and love to spread the word about amazing cycling. I like your take here. One thing i’d like to add to your remarks about traffic calming in small streets by being narrow and having obsticles: another big part of reducing car speed is the cobbled surface. Have you noticed that in residential areas without bike paths, the cobbles appear? For cars, driving on cobbled stones produces way more road noise, encuriging the driver to slow down. It’s almost a subconcious process, but it works. Thans again.
