Pretty new to the world of bike repair. Last weekend I took my front wheel off (quick release) so I can fit it in my car. I assembled my bike and the brakes worked fine. Later that same day I took the wheel off to travel home. The next day, I tried to use my bike and now the brakes do absolutely nothing. I thought at first the cable had slack but, pressing the lever manually does nothing. I can see the piston moving up and down so did my brake pads somehow fall off? Can anyone tell me what happened?

I only see one brake pad, so yeah, it looks like you lost a brake pad. Also the cable is not attached but I am assuming you knew that.
It looks like the spring is missing between the pads.

Isn’t the cable not clamped?
